Learning cheers for cheerleading is fun and easy. All it takes is some repetition and practice to know all the words and movements. Cheerleaders that do not know cheers look lost and clumsy trying to follow along. Cheerleaders that know the cheers by heart perform better while cheering at games or cheerleading competitions.
Step 1
Locate a cheerleading video. Cheer videos are available online, or you can ask a cheerleading squad if you can record them while they cheer.
Step 2
Watch the video closely and write down the words to the cheers. If there are specific motions that accompany the words, write them alongside each phrase.
Step 3
Play the video and pause it between phrases. Repeat each phrase out loud while the video is paused. Do this two or three times to become comfortable with the words.
Step 4
Play the video in its entirety, cheering with the cheerleaders in the video. Use the written words as a reference, if necessary. Repeat until you can follow along confidently with all the words.
Step 5
Add in the motions and perform the cheer with the video. Remember to do right and left movements opposite of the cheerleaders if they are facing you in the video. Repeat until the words and motions feel natural.
Step 6
Perform the entire cheer in front of a full-length mirror. Watch to make sure all movements are clean and are accompanied with proper facial expressions.
