Yohimbe bark comes from the yohimbe tree native to western Africa. It has been used for centuries---and possibly as far back as ancient times, according to Entheology.org--for its medicinal qualities, particularly with respect to sexual arousal. Long considered an aphrodisiac, yohimbe bark is used today to help combat erectile dysfunction and stimulate sexual desire in individuals, according to the American Cancer Society. It can be taken directly as bark or tincture or steeped in hot water to make tea.
Step 1
Consume 15 to 30 mg daily of yohimbe bark, as recommended by NaturalHerbsGuide.com. This can be found in capsules to be taken as an oral supplement. As with most herbs, yohimbe supplements will be most effective when taken on an empty stomach--this will allow your body to absorb the active substances as efficiently as possible.
Step 2
Use an eye dropper to drop 5 to 10 drops of yohimbe bark tincture onto your tongue. NaturalHerbsGuide.com advises you take this amount three times daily. The tincture is a concentration of the substances found in yohimbe bark.
Step 3
Place 6 tsp. of yohimbe bark into one cup (8 oz.) of boiling water. Remove the water from the heat and let the bark steep in the water for five to ten minutes, according to the recipe and dosing recommendation found at Entheology.org. This recipe will draw the active substances and flavor out from the bark into the water. You can run the steeped tea through a strainer when pouring it into a cup, if you want, to avoid drinking small sediments and pieces of tree bark.
