How to Condition a Lacrosse Head

Softening lacrosse mesh is important for individuals who are just learning the basics of the sport. It helps players get the feel of the ball in the pocket, and is good for faceoffs and cradling.

Step 1

Fill a large, clean tub or bucket with hot water. Pour in one cup of hair conditioner or fabric softener, and mix the solution well.

Step 2

Place the lacrosse head mesh in the bucket and let it sit for at least one hour. Test the mesh every 20 minutes or so to determine if the mesh has reached your desired softness. If your mesh is not soft enough after a couple of hours of soaking, pour some of the conditioner or fabric softener directly into the mesh, and let it soak another 20 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse the mesh under cold water to remove all the conditioner or fabric softener. Make sure the water from the mesh is running clear to ensure that all the buildup has been removed.

Step 4

Spread the mesh flat and even to minimize drying time. Once the mesh is dry, use it to string the lacrosse pocket.
