It is satisfying to know that, in an era of ready-made products, you can turn standard household products into cost-effective, highly beneficial homemade spa recipes. A simple mask made with lemon and yeast helps slough off dead skin cells, aids with deep cleansing and also shrinks the pores. This mask is suitable for all skin types and you can start by applying twice weekly, then adapt the usage frequency as desired.

Step 1

Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into a small bowl.

Step 2

Pour one packet of dry yeast into a separate bowl. Add 2 tsp. lukewarm water to the yeast and stir with a fork, or use your clean fingers, until it is a thick paste.

Step 3

Spoon the lemon juice into the yeast mixture a little bit at a time, still stirring with the fork, until it reaches the desired texture.

Step 4

Wash your face, then smooth the lemon-yeast mixture onto your face. Let sit for up to 15 minutes, then rinse your face with warm water and pat dry.

Tips and Warnings

  • You can turn the facial mask into an invigorating facial scrub by eliminating yeast and adding sugar, then substituting the water for a bit of oil. For another quick facial mask recipe, whip one egg white until stiff, mix in lemon juice until you like the texture, then smooth on your face. Leave on for 15 minutes, rinse and pat dry.
