Breaking in the Wilson A2000 fastpitch softball glove will give you better control of the ball, more comfortable play and a long-lasting piece of equipment. It can be purchased from most sporting goods stores for an average cost of between $180 and $200. Sizes range from 10.75 to 12.5 inches, and its high-quality, full-grain steerhide makes it ideal for any budding player.

Step 1

Apply lotion to the mitt. A popular choice is shaving oil, but other products like Vaseline and saddle soap work great, too. Ideally, find a product that contains lanolin, as this tends to provide optimal results. Take a very small amount of your lotion of choice, and using a clean cloth, rub the lotion into all the cracks and crevices of the mitt. Let it rest overnight.

Step 2

Mold the pocket. Wipe out any remaining lotion or oil from the mitt, then play a game of catch. This helps to mold the mitt to your particular catching style. Afterward, put a softball in the mitt's pocket and tie the mitt shut tightly with a shoelace, string or rope.

Step 3

Play catch every day. This helps to wear in the leather, and allows it to form to your hand. In the evenings, tie it up with the softball in the pocket to improve the formation of the mitt. Do this every night for a couple of weeks.

Things You'll Need
