A dry throat can be caused by weather changes and dry air, especially during the winter months when dry heat is pushed through furnaces. It can also be the result of a disease or infection and is often accompanied by scratchiness, soreness or painful swallowing. Although a dry throat is usually temporary and will disappear on its own, it can be uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are ways to relieve a dry throat.
Step 1
Chew on gum when you feel that your throat is dry. This will increase saliva production, which provides moisture for your throat.
Step 2
Avoid allergens if your dry throat is caused by allergies. You can also use an allergy medication that is designed to reduce allergy symptoms.
Step 3
Drink chamomile tea or warm water mixed with honey. Honey and chamomile both have soothing properties that can provide relief for a dry or sore throat.
Step 4
Brew a tea made with herbs that can ease a dry and sore throat. According to the Mayo Clinic, some of these herbs include licorice root, honeysuckle flowers, barberry and eucalyptus. These herbs can be found at health food stores.
Step 5
Drink water before going to bed and anytime your throat feels dry during the day. This will help keep your throat moist.
Step 6
Use a humidifier in your home, especially at night while you sleep. A humidifier works by putting moisture back into the air that the dry heat of a furnace has taken out.
Tips and Warnings
