Sociopathic or antisocial behavior reveals itself in the way a person thinks, views situations or treats others with a disregard for their feelings. People with this mental disorder cannot recognize the difference between right and wrong, the Mayo Clinic explains. Sociopaths often end up in trouble with other people or with the law.
Arrogance
Sociopaths often have an inflated view of their abilities and self-worth, according to The Sociopathic Style, a support network for victims of sociopathic relationships. Sociopaths often feel they are superior to everyone else. They can be charming, engaging and slick. Their self-centered views may result in tendencies to brag or be self-assured and opinionated.
Lying
A sociopathic person is involved in persistent lying or deceit, the Mayo Clinic reports. Sociopaths can be shrewd or cunning in the way they lie in order to get what they want. They can be deceptive, unscrupulous and dishonest. They tend to manipulate people and do not care if they cheat or defraud others, especially when it comes to personal gain. They have no concern for the feelings or suffering of the people they victimize.
Lack of Remorse
Sociopaths can be coldhearted and unconcerned about the painful consequences of their actions. They lack remorse, guilt or conscience. They are callous, inconsiderate and even contemptuous of the people they manipulate. A sociopath may intentionally exploit the finances of others for personal gain without caring about the loss and hardship their victims face.
Irresponsibility
Sociopaths often fail to honor or fulfill commitments--to others or to themselves. They may not care about paying bills, showing up for work on time or finishing a job they promised to perform. Their work and lifestyle can be sloppy because of carelessness. Their lives can be aimless and lack direction. Their irresponsible behavior may lead to promiscuous sexual behavior that includes multiple affairs, brief encounters or carrying on several relationships at a time, The Sociopathic Style notes. They often brag about their sexual encounters as conquests.
Aggression
Sociopaths can become irritable and annoyed, which sometimes results in threats, verbal abuse and other acts of aggression. Sociopaths may need stimulation to escape what they perceive as boredom, but they have low self-discipline to complete tasks. They may fail to work at the same job for a length of time, or they may go through many relationships. They may have substance abuse or legal problems, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. They may wind up committing criminal offenses. Their recklessness may lead to failing to appear in court or pay fines.
Early Problems
The behavior of a sociopath may be noticed in childhood or adolescence, The Sociopathic Style notes. Sociopathic youths may be repeatedly involved in such offenses as theft, cheating, lying or vandalism. The crimes they commit usually involve aggression, manipulation or ruthlessness.
