Growing long hair is easier for some than others, but anyone in decent health can encourage hastened hair growth by making a few changes to their habits and making it a priority to take proper care of their hair. In time, your hair will grow out with less damage, meaning you'll notice longer hair in a relatively shorter period of time.

Step 1

Maintain a healthy diet by focusing on including foods high in protein. Lean meats, nuts, tofu, eggs, fish, beans and dark green veggies are high in protein and help encourage long, healthy hair. You should also focus on including veggies high in B-complex vitamins like broccoli, lettuce, kale, peas and peppers. Consider a vitamin and mineral supplement to encourage healthy hair growth.

Step 2

Avoid heat styling your hair as much as possible. Limit your use of the blow dryer and skip straighteners and curling irons if you can help it. Heat damages your hair and can cause it to break.

Step 3

Shampoo and condition your hair every other day, taking special care to massage your scalp. This will encourage blood flow to your scalp and boost hair growth.

Step 4

Avoid harsh hair products. Anything containing alcohol or sodium laurel sulfate dries your hair and can make it split and break. Stick to gentle hair products like Burt's Bees or Alba Botanica to encourage hair growth and to avoid causing build up on your scalp.

Step 5

Keep your stress levels under control. Stress can make sleep difficult and could lead to a weak immune system, which contributes to slow hair growth. Don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed. Instead take deep breaths and take time to meditate when you're feeling stressed out.
