Burdock root has been used as an herbal medicine in Asian cultures for centuries. It is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat sore throat and colds, while in Japan and some parts of Europe it is still consumed as a vegetable. Burdock root is believed to work as a blood purifier, a diuretic and a topical medication for eczema, acne and psoriasis. Few clinical studies have examined the benefit of taking burdock root, but it has been determined by some studies to be a useful prebiotic that can improve health, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Step 1
Take burdock root capsules orally. You can take one capsule containing a gram of dried burdock root three times a day. If the potency of the capsules you purchase is more or less than a gram, consult the directions on the capsule's packaging.
Step 2
Steep 2 to 3 g. of dried burdock root in 150 mL of boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain out the root. Drink the fluid three times each day. You can also apply this tea to your skin for the topical treatment of eczema or acne by soaking a soft cloth in the fluid and allowing the fluid to cool, then applying the cloth to the affected skin.
Step 3
