Ulcers are a common condition caused by the imbalance of a few factors in a person's stomach or duodenum. When a patient is diagnosed with a gastric or duodenal ulcer, he must change his diet accordingly so as not to further exacerbate the condition and to avoid causing more discomfort.

Dairy

Dairy is useful to ulcer patients because of its high protein content and soothing effect on ulcer pain. Beware of excess use of milk even though it provides quick pain relief, because it also acts as a stimulant for stomach acid production. Dairy for the most part is soft and does not aggravate the walls of the stomach and duodenum.

Meat

Meat is another source of protein in ulcer patients. Make sure when eating meat to avoid eating it very hot or cold and make sure it is well cooked. Boiled meat is very beneficial to ulcer patients because of its softness, which does not aggravate the ulcer further, and because it is a good source of sustenance. Make sure to chew the meat you eat thoroughly.

Pureed Fruits and Vegetables

Raw fruits and vegetables are a decent form of nutrition for ulcer patients because of their high vitamin content and low fat content. Pureeing them makes them easier to digest. Avoid citrus fruits such as oranges, as well as tomatoes. Use bland fruits instead such as bananas and avocados.

Clean Foods

Clean foods (foods that have been thoroughly washed) must be used to avoid further bacterial infection. Many ulcers are caused by Helicobacter pylori bacteria, and the less bacteria ingested, the more beneficial the food is.
