It doesn't take a long time to fall in love with the game of golf. However, it can take years to learn how to hit a golf ball correctly. While it takes a long time to perfect a swing, you can take a few important and basic steps to hit the ball fairly consistently and get satisfaction out of your round of golf.
Stance
Uou have a much better chance of hitting the ball well if you have the correct stance. Make sure your left shoulder (for a right-handed golfer) is facing the green. Your left foot needs to be directly underneath your left foot. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart. Play the ball midway in your stance and make sure your knees are bent in an athletic position.
Backswing
Start your backswing by rolling your hips to the right. You want your hips to trigger your swing, and there is no reason to rush this movement. As your hips roll, bring your shoulders, arms and hands into play. Make sure you get your hands back to shoulder level.
Downswing and Follow Through
Once you have gotten to the top of the backswing, it's time to come down. Once again, your first movement is with your hips. Drive your hips to and through the hitting zone. As your hands follow, you can accelerate your movement as they get close to the ball. As you follow through after hitting, do not allow your head to come up so you can follow the flight of the ball. Keep driving your club forward until it is at shoulder height.
