How to Stop Bad Body Odor

No one wants to be that person, the one who people keep their distance from, making it completely obvious that a body odor problem is in play. Bacteria on the skin, mixing in with sweat, can create an unpleasant aroma, commonly called body odor. If you've noticed the problem, you're one step closer to fixing it. There are several things you can do to make the necessary changes to help stop bad body odor and get your personal and social life back on track.

Step 1

Bathe often. If bathing daily isn't fixing the problem, bathe twice a day. Wash yourself with an antibacterial soap to help remove the bacteria that is contributing to the problem. Adding a couple of cups of tomato juice to your bath water and soaking for at least 15 minutes can help to curb the smell. Rinse your body well with warm water and towel dry with a clean dry towel before getting dressed.

Step 2

Wash your clothes after each wearing, making sure to wear clean clothes each time you get dressed. Opt for loose-fitting clothing with natural fibers, such as cotton, so that fresh air can reach your skin. White clothing tends to reflect sunlight and helps to keep your body cool. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle when you wash your clothes to help eliminate lingering odors.

Step 3

Drink water throughout the day to help keep your body cool, which reduces your chance of sweating and help to flush away toxins that may be in your system, contributing to the odor. Drinking six to eight glasses of water daily can help to keep your body hydrated.

Step 4

Avoid foods and exotic spices with strong odors. Garlic, too much protein and some fish can contribute to unpleasant body odor. Instead opt for lean meats, whole grains and fresh green leafy vegetables.

Step 5

Wear deodorant or antiperspirant every day. Try different types and brands until you find one that works best for you. Deodorants act as antiseptics to eliminate bacteria, whereas antiperspirants help to keep you from sweating. You can also apply baking soda or baby powder under your arms before you get dressed to help absorb moisture and odors.
