If you have experienced a bad haircut, you may have the desire to help your hair grow longer as fast as possible. In order to optimize growth, avoid chemicals and hair styling tools that can damage the hair. Limit the use of blow dryers, flat irons, hot rollers, perm chemicals and colorants. Remember to get trims every 6 to 8 weeks while growing the hair to cut off dead ends. In the meantime, you can consider extensions to add length to your hair.
Step 1
Perform a scalp massage once a week. For 5 to 10 minutes, use the tips of your fingers to gently massage the entire scalp. This can help encourage hair growth by increasing blood flow to the area.
Step 2
Keep stress at bay. Allow your time to unwind by performing stress relief activities, like meditation and yoga. Getting enough sleep at night, at least 7 to 8 hours, can also aid hair growth.
Step 3
Adjust your diet. Your body needs iron, protein, vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin K and vitamin E to optimize hair growth. These nutrients can be found in foods, such as green leafy vegetables, beans, seeds, legumes, whole grains, seafood, lean meats, citrus fruits and dairy products. To keep fat intake under control, choose lean proteins and low-fat or fat-free dairy foods.
Step 4
Take a hair growth supplement. If you aren't getting enough nutrients, an over-the-counter supplement can be taken to get your hair to grow longer in less time. Formulations are available for skin, hair and nail health and sold at nutritional supply stores.
Step 5
Consider a minoxidil based topical solution. To prevent hair loss and to open up the hair follicles, a minoxidil-based topical treatment can be applied twice a day. These products are sold over the counter and are available from the well-known brand Rogaine.
