1. Could Be a Sign of Breast Cancer
All opposite body parts are just a little bit off. It's nature's way. Asymmetry is much more common that perfect symmetry. So if one of your breasts is a tad bit larger than the other, it is not something to be alarmed about. If you are having trouble finding a bra to fit correctly because one side is remarkably larger than the other one, then you need to have it checked out. It could be a tumor or growth that is causing the problem.
2. When the Mirror Revolts
If after a thorough mammogram and perhaps an ultrasound x-ray, your doctor finds that you do not have any growth, cancerous or not, then you just buy a bra big enough for the big breast and stuff the other one. No one notices your physical defects as much as you do and lopsided breasts are the least noticeable feature of all. Young women especially experience varying cup sizes as they mature. The breasts do not stop growing until about three years after the onset of menstruation.
3. If You Can't Stand the Imbalance
Cosmetic surgery is available to correct the imbalance. You can either have one side enlarged or one reduced. Plastic surgeons will not hesitate to perform a breast enlargement or reduction if the variance is one cup size or more. Measure your breasts with a rolling measuring tool beginning on one side, and going through the nipple to the exact opposite side to be sure if they really is that big of a difference. Regardless of reality though, often times the psychological stress that women experience because of their body imperfections can override the best of medical advice. Good mental health is often enough reason to get the surgery.
4. Post-Surgical Effects
The goal of cosmetic surgery is to end up with equal-sized breasts. However, it will not be the case for at least four to six weeks and the breast that received the treatment will be swollen. If it does not go down enough to suit you, then you can go back in and get a little liposuction to complete the evening out process. You will always have to watch your weight too because the new breast will not gain weight like your own natural breast.
5. Grow Old Together
Of course, you must consider the droop factor. Women's breasts give in to gravity just like every other body part and begin to sag more as they age. You should be aware that when that happens, the reconstructed breast would remain young and perky while the natural breast sags. Perhaps you may call your surgeon back up and get a touch up on the real breast. Alternatively, you can both breasts worked on at the same time to avoid future issues.
