Drinking lots of water can help you lose weight in a number of ways. For example, being well-hydrated increases your energy, according to the Calories Per Hour website, and the more energy you have, the easier it will be to stick to a workout program. Water also can help flush out toxins produced during fat-burning and exercise.

Step 1

Drink a glass of water about 30 minutes before each meal. This will fill your stomach so you will end up eating less when you sit down at the table. Have an additional glass throughout the meal. Chow slowly and have a sip of water every two or three bites to increase the satiety level.

Step 2

Take a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. If you drive, keep one in the car; if not, put one in your bag and cart it around. Drink throughout the day, even if it's just a sip. The amount adds to your daily total.

Step 3

Take a 1-liter bottle of water with you to the gym. If you take a small bottle, chances are you won't stop your workout to buy a second one, but having a larger one will motivate you to drink more. For more energy, try adding a small amount of an energy drink or fruit juice to the bottle. About a half-cup should be enough to provide flavor without adding a significant amount of calories.

Step 4

Drink an additional glass of water for every cup of caffeinated drinks you have. Caffeine is a diuretic, so it robs your body of water. The same is true if you drink lots of sodium, which will cause you to retain water and bloat.

Step 5

Drink a glass of water every time you're hungry. Thirst is often confused for hunger by the body and you might end up eating when you really don't need food. Wait 20 to 30 minutes after drinking to see if the hunger goes away.
