Body wraps are all the rage, since they can be one of the most effective ways to release toxins from your body. Slathered in mud and wrapped like a mummy, many seek these spa treatments for their ability to minimize and reduce cellulite. Unlike applying a topical cream, a wrap done correctly can address the problem from the inside out. Whether you get a body wrap at a spa or do your own at home, focusing on certain aspects of this cleansing process can aid you in getting more noticeable, yet safe results.

Step 1

Drink six to eight glasses of water throughout the day. Staying hydrated both before and after your wrap will help flush toxins, suggests the Health Recipes website. It also suggests avoiding caffeine, sugar, fried fatty foods, sodas and alcohol for the next 48 hours after your wrap.

Step 2

Apply a salt scrub in a warm shower to open your pores. Gently massage the scrub into your skin to invigorate. Avoid irritating your skin by rubbing too vigorously, as you want to be able to tolerate and reap the benefits of your wrap.

Step 3

Choose a mineral body wrap rather than an herbal body wrap. Green clay followed by strips soaked in warm water and sea salt are a great combination that contain minerals.

Step 4

Apply the green clay to a small section of your body. Wring out the excess water in the bandages or strips and wrap the area snugly, but not so tightly that circulation is cut off. Repeat this process until all desired areas have been covered and wrapped. Standing on newspaper during this phase of your wrap will make clean-up easier.

Step 5

Relax for 45 minutes to let the minerals and clay do their job. Most people who do body wraps at home prefer to sit in a bathtub during this phase, since it can get quite messy. Read a book, listen to some music, or just relax. Choosing ingredients that have a pleasing aroma can go a long way toward making this phase more enjoyable.

Step 6

Remove the wraps and shower with warm water to remove the green clay; follow with a moisturizer. Continue to drink water to enhance your results and flush toxins from your body.
