Life Fitness is a well-known manufacturer of home and commercial workout equipment. The company produces a line of elliptical machines, including the 90X, 91X, 95XE and the Classic Series. If your machine is experiencing any performance issues, you can do some basic troubleshooting at home before calling the company's service department. For additional troubleshooting information specific to your elliptical model, refer to your owner's manual. If you don't have the manual handy, downloadable versions are available through the Life Fitness website.
Step 1
Inspect the different parts of the Life Fitness exercise machine. Check for any damage or loose bolts on the base, console, covers and frame. If any of the bolts feel loose, tighten with an Allen wrench. If you note damage, contact the Life Fitness customer service department about a replacement part.
Step 2
Unplug the elliptical. Wait several minutes and then plug it back in. Check that you are using a working outlet. You may need to reset the household circuit breaker or replace any fuses.
Step 3
Check the chest strap. A Life Fitness elliptical will have an optional chest strap for heart rate monitoring. If the strap is not able to get a reading, remove the strap and wash it with mild soap and water. When you put the strap back on your body and the machine is in use, make sure it is at least three feet away from the heart rate receiver.
Step 4
Fix the heart rate sensors. If your Life Fitness elliptical model has heart rate sensors and they are reading erratically, you can troubleshoot them by grasping the sensors firmly in your hands and applying constant pressure. The reading should now be correct.
