Since the skin covers almost the entire body, it is no surprise it is the largest body organ. Hair is part of the skin and is considered an extension of it. Since hair and skin make up a big part of how the body looks, it makes sense to care for your hair and skin. One way to get beautiful hair and skin is to take vitamins that contribute to their health every day.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A contributes to healthy skin and hair by helping bone cells grow strong. Strong bone cells are important for skin and hair health. If you have an inadequate amount of Vitamin A in your diet may find your skin to be coarse, blemished or dry. You may also notice that your skin itches. An adequate intake of Vitamin A may prevent these problems from developing. Since Vitamin A offers protection against premature aging, adequate intake of this vitamin may give hair and skin a youthful appearance. Vitamin A can be found in certain plants and in certain animals. The Vitamin A found in plant sources is called beta-carotene, and the Vitamin A found in animal sources is called retinol.

Vitamin B2

An inadequate amount of Vitamin B2, or riboflavin, in the diet may result in skin lesions. Riboflavin is required for the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates, and it is an important vitamin if you suffer with psoriasis. Vitamin B2 can be found in some plants and animals.

Vitamin B3

If you do not have enough Vitamin B3, or niacin, you may find that your skin is dry or scaly in some areas, or you may find you have dermatitis. Niacin helps prevent these skin conditions. Vitamin B3 can be found in some plants and some animal products.

Vitamin B6

According to "Linda Page's Healthy Healing," written by Linda Page, Vitamin B6 can help keep acne under control. It is also effective in making skin beautiful. Skin lesions and breaks in the skin near the eyes and mouth may develop if you do not have enough Vitamin B6 in your diet. Vitamin B6 can be found in plants and animals.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C's role in the production of collagen is an important one. Collagen is the part of the layer of skin beneath the epidermis, and it prevents the skin from sagging. Vitamin C with bioflavonoids makes hair strong. If you have a deficiency of Vitamin C, you may find that your skin is coarse and wounds may take time to heal. Certain fruits and vegetables contain Vitamin C.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is beneficial to skin tone, and it enhances the texture of the skin. This vitamin also contributes to a healthy head of hair as it helps to prevent baldness and dandruff. If you lack adequate Vitamin E in your diet, you may experience skin discoloration. Vitamin E is found in certain plants, seafood and organ meats.
