A sea salt detox is also often called a salt water flush. It is intended to get rid of toxins in the body and move along the bowels to clear out the digestive tract. Many individuals perform a sea salt detox as part of a cleansing program, like the Master Cleanse. On this plan, you drink a concoction made up of lemon juice, cayenne pepper, water, and maple syrup. You should speak to your doctor prior to performing any type of detox program. Since you will need access to a bathroom, the best time to do the flush is in the evening.
Step 1
Eat a light diet. Since the flush encourages bowel movements, you should eat a light diet starting three days prior to doing the detox. Your diet should be made up of mostly fruits and vegetables.
Step 2
Mix together the 2 teaspoons of sea salt with 1 liter of room temperature water. Shake the bottle well to blend the ingredients together.
Step 3
Drink the liter of sea salt water in one sitting. Due to the unpleasant taste, you should chug the water as quickly as possible. If you are having difficulty downing the entire thing, drink a full glass every 20 minutes until you have finished it off.
Step 4
Head to the bathroom approximately 30 minutes later. Within half an hour, you are likely to start feeling the urge to use the bathroom. According to the Master Cleanse website, you can expect anywhere from three to seven bowel movements after drinking the mixture.
Step 5
Ease out with a light diet. You should still follow a light diet of mostly fruits and vegetables at least three days following the sea salt detox. You can then slowly reintroduce lean proteins, whole grains, and dairy products.
