Skin blemishes or discolorations are a common skin problem affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Skin blemishes are a nuisance in adolescence but can be problematic in adult life as well. There are innumerable causes of blemishes, including acne, prolonged sun exposure, medications and the natural aging process. Skin blemishes can appear anywhere on your body, especially on your face, chest, back and arms. Fortunately, there are many methods for clearing skin blemishes.
Step 1
Apply a high-quality microdermabrasion cream. These creams contain mild physical abrasives which remove the surface layer of skin and promote skin cell regeneration and collagen growth. When purchasing microdermabrasion creams, look for the chemical called alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) complex, the active ingredient that fades away skin discolorations. There are innumerable microdermabrasion creams available, so consult a pharmacist to ask which cream is best for your skin type.
Step 2
Apply an over-the-counter bleaching cream or serum to clear skin blemishes. When buying bleaching creams, look for the following ingredients: hydroquinone (fades skin discolorations), vitamin E (helps smooth and soften skin) and alpha hydroxy acid (helps enhance results). Ask a pharmacist to help you choose the best bleaching cream for your skin type. Make sure to read the directions before applying the cream to your skin.
Step 3
Consult a dermatologist for a chemical peel. Your dermatologist will apply a chemical solution such as alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to the affected skin areas. These chemicals clear skin blemishes and smooth the texture of your skin by dissolving the damaged outer layers of your skin. After the treatment, your skin will start to peel, and new skin will develop in about 7 to 10 days, revealing smoother and clearer skin.
Step 4
Apply sunblock lotion with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or above when undergoing the aforementioned remedies. Applying sunblock lotion will prevent skin blemishes from further darkening. Always apply one hour before going outside.
