In the game of golf, no two swings, player heights and weights or power are the same. For this reason, why should your golf club be the same? Golf clubs can be fitted—a term that refers to adjusting your golf club to compensate for the way you swing and your height. Golf clubs can be fitted by professional representatives that produce the type of clubs you have, professional fitters at the vendor you purchased your clubs from or even yourself. Regardless of the location, the fit of your golf clubs affects the angle at which you hit the ball, which in turn affects ball speed and spin, according to Golf magazine.

Considering Your Height

The height of you and the height of your club affect your form when you swing. According to Golf Tips magazine, taller players should use clubs that sit upright as a means to help low and right shots. Shorter players need clubs with a flatter face, which helps to address difficulty those of a shorter height typically have when making left or high shots.

Utilize Today’s Technology

Technology has made many advancements in the field of measuring your golf swing. For example, the golf club company Taylor Made uses nine high-speed cameras to measure numerous points of your swing, including club-face angle, ball speed when hit, body lines, club-head path and more, according to Golf Tips magazine. These measurements are then used to determine how your club faces should be angled and the appropriate lengths of your shafts. Other custom-fitting studios can even measure where you are actually aiming with your putter, a number that often differs from where you think you are aiming. While these sessions can be costly on some occasions, utilizing these and other technological advancements can help you to find the best equipment, according to Steve Bosdosh, a golf professional at The Members’ Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md., in Golf magazine.

Try Out Many Manufacturers

Wherever you choose to have your clubs fit, it’s important that you have several manufacturers to choose from. No matter your preconceived notions about your preferences for a golf club company, it’s important to try out several types of clubs in order to determine what is best for you. You should answer several questions or consider factors when fitting clubs yourself, such as your speed hitting the club, height, hand dominance and typical ball speed when hitting the club.
