Amoxicillin (Amoxil) is a medication used to fight bacterial infections in the body. It's used in the treatment of ear and bladder infections, salmonella, E. coli, pneumonia and gonorrhea. Amoxicilin can also be used for the treatment of stomach ulcers, caused by the bacteria H. pylori. Amoxicillin can make birth control pills less effective, which may result in pregnancy, reports Drugs.com. Tell your physician which other medications you're taking.

Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea and Stomach Pain

Taking your medication with food may prevent gastrointestinal discomfort. Eating smaller meals more frequently and avoiding spicy or fried foods may help alleviate stomach pain. If diarrhea becomes severe, you may become dehydrated. Contact your health care professional if gastrointestinal symptoms become intolerable.

Confusion and Agitation

In addition to confusion and agitation, changes in behavior and anxiety can occur. Use caution while driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how this medication can affect you.

Headache

This side effect may diminish over time as your body adjusts to amoxicillin. You can treat your headache with over-the-counter acetaminophen or ibuprofen as per your doctor's consent.

Hives, Skin Rash, and Peeling Skin

Hives, skin rash, and peeling skin can occur while taking Amoxicillin, says PDR Health. If hives and rash are accompanied by difficulty breathing and swelling on the tongue or throat, it can be a symptom of a severe allergic reaction. Contact your health care provider immediately if you think you may be experiencing an allergic reaction.

Severe Reactions

Stop using Amoxil if you experience reactions such as bruising, fever, skin rash, itching, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes and/or sores on the genitals, says PDR Health. Contact your physician before deciding whether to take another dose.
