When pregnant, many women complain about feeling tired or exhausted throughout the day. It's no wonder; each day your growing baby takes more of your energy to grow and develop, notes WhatToExpect.org. Of course, the knowledge that you are using your energy to support your baby doesn't help you when a wave of fatigue hits you at work, at home or when out with friends.

Snacks

Grab a quick snack. The Mayo Clinic notes that foods high in iron and protein can help you to feel awake and alert. Look for snacks that are healthy, but still pack an energy punch, like a handful of nuts, a few slices of low-fat cheese, leafy green vegetables or dried fruit. Keep these snacks in your purse so that you can nosh whenever you feel a little sleepy.

Exercise

Engage in some moderate exercise, suggests BabyCenter.com. While exercising may be the last thing on your mind while pregnant, researchers at the University of Georgia found that light to moderate exercise could actually boost your energy level and reduce feelings of fatigue. Take a brisk walk round your office, head to the community center for a quick swim or simply walk around the mall with friends.

Naps

If you have the time, a 20-minute cat nap in the afternoon may be all you need to wake feeling refreshed and energized. Cornell University says that cat naps have the power to recharge your energy battery, leaving you feeling refreshed, less stressed and less fatigued. If you can, find a place to nap for a few minutes, if only in your car while it is parked and locked. Set your cell phone alarm for 20 minutes and snooze away.

Scheduling

Schedule your day around the times that you know you usually feel most tired when pregnant. If you can't even think about functioning until your morning sickness and fatigue subside, arrange your day so most activities are in the afternoon. Give yourself plenty of time to complete tasks and make sure you schedule time to eat healthy meals and get extra rest throughout the day.

Help

If you find yourself so fatigued during the day that you can't complete normal tasks, ask for help. For instance, if you tend to get sleepy while in the car, call someone you trust to come get you or drive you around for an afternoon. If you don't have the energy to play with your kids, ask a family member to take them for the afternoon so you can get some extra rest. Keep helpful friends and family members on speed dial so you can call in some backup if you get too tired.
