Lavender is the best essential oil to have on hand, according to the Rocky Mountain Oils website. People have used this essential oil and other lavender products traditionally for relaxation and to relieve anxiety. Scenting linens with lavender provides more restful sleep. Additionally, lavender oil has analgesic, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties, making it good for skin care. Many health food stores carry lavender essential oil, and you also can buy it online.

Facial Cleanser

Include lavender essential oil as part of a soothing facial cleanser. A recipe from the Rocky Mountain Oils website blends six drops lavender with six drops geranium, four drops chamomile, four drops lemon and two drops tea tree oils. Place four drops of the blend into 1 cup of water in a spray bottle, and mist it onto your face for toning and refreshing. (Keep your eyes closed when using an essential oil spray.) Leave the blend on for a few minutes, and then gently wipe your face with cotton balls. This blend also works well for dry skin when you mix 12 drops with 2 tbsp. of a carrier oil (base oil) of your choice. Massage it into the dry areas.

Facial Mask

Lavender essential oil can be included in a honey facial mask as well. A recipe from the Circles of Light website blends two drops lavender oil with one drop each lemon and rose oils and 3 tbsp. liquid honey. Apply the mix evenly to your face and neck for a toning and cleansing mask. Keep the mask on for at least seven minutes and then rinse with warm water.

Skin Refresher

A simple blend of lavender essential oil and mineral water can make a good skin refresher, as noted by All Free Crafts. For a facial spritz, add 10 drops lavender oil to 2 cups mineral water in a spray bottle and shake it. Mist onto your face. You also can massage the mix into your face. A lavender oil spritz or facial massage tightens pores and is beneficial after you wash your face.

Facial Compress

An additional use for lavender essential oil is for a soothing facial compress. Cover 2 tsp. of lavender flower buds with 1 cup boiling water and steep for five minutes. Strain the water and add 20 drops of lavender oil. The All Free Crafts website recommends immersing a washcloth or flannel cloth in this lavender water and wringing it out, then applying it to your face.
