Educating herself on self-defense techniques is very important for today's woman. Females can be attacked by male assailants on the streets or at home. Having some self-defense knowledge gives a woman the skills and confidence to protect herself. Although there are hundreds of self-defense techniques taught at martial arts schools, some of the best techniques are the ones that are easy to remember in tense situations. Eye strikes, nose strikes, groin kicks and foot stomps are simple self-defense techniques that can inflict a lot of pain on an attacker.
Eye Strikes
One of the most vulnerable targets on an attacker is his eyes. Striking the eyes is also easy for a woman to do. If attacked from the front, a woman can use a simple thrust of the fingers to the attacker's eyes. She can also do a quick flicking motion with the fingers. Another possibility is to use the thumbs and drive them into his eyes. Striking the eyes causes pain and temporary blindness. This should give a woman enough time to get away from an attacker.
Nose Strikes
Another good target is the nose. It does not take a lot of force to cause pain in the nose. A good technique for striking the nose is to use the heel of the palm. A good palm-heel strike should be done quickly and powerfully to the nose to stop an attacker. If a woman is being attacked from behind, the elbow can also be used to strike the nose. This rear elbow strike is performed by raising the elbow to the side and swiftly swinging it back into the attacker's nose. When a person's nose is struck, his natural reaction is usually to bring his hands to his nose. If his hands are on his nose, that means they are not grabbing the victim and the victim can escape.
Groin Kicks
It is no secret that the groin is a target on a man. A woman can cause extreme pain to a male assailant if she uses her knee to deliver a kick to his groin. This is a good technique to use if the attacker is at close range. If the attacker is further away, then a woman can forcefully kick with the top of her foot between his legs. A strong groin kick will likely double over an attacker. This could set him up for a strike to the nose as a follow-up.
Foot Stomps
A good technique for an attack at close range is a foot stomp. Foot stomps can be done if the attack is coming from the front or the back. An effective foot stomp is done by raising the knee and driving the heel down onto an attacker's instep. This is especially effective if the woman is wearing high heels. A follow-up strike to the eyes, nose or groin is recommended to further thwart the attack and to increase the chances of escaping.
