Lustrous hair may come naturally to some people, but most of us have to work at it. Coloring, permanents, blow dryers, curling irons and hair products cause problems that can lead to a long string of "bad hair days." While there are plenty of expensive natural products to repair your hair, you can save some money and try some home beauty remedies that use ingredients from your kitchen.

Mayonnaise for Dry Hair

Reach into your refrigerator and grab a jar of mayonnaise to relieve symptoms of dry hair. Drusilla Banks, Nutrition and Wellness Educator for the University of Illinois Extension, offers this quick and easy home beauty remedy for hair. Measure out a cup of mayonnaise and apply it from tip to root on your unwashed, dry hair. Wrap your hair in plastic with a shower cap, plastic bag or Saran wrap. After 15 minutes, hop into the shower and rinse. Shampoo your hair twice, then condition and style as usual.

Remove Buildup

Regular use of shampoo and conditioner, along with styling products, can result in buildup. Buildup is a film that covers your hair, leaving it feeling lifeless and looking dull. Causes include continuous use of two-in-one shampoos, non-water-soluble ingredients and regular use of hair spray. Drusilla Banks recommends a special final rinse, along with washing your hair with dishwashing liquid in place of your regular shampoo. Before your shower, prepare a final rinse by mixing 3 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice with 2 cups of water. Wash your hair with dishwashing liquid and rinse thoroughly. When your hair rinses clean, pour the final rinse you prepared before your shower over your hair and towel dry as usual.

Add Shine to Dull Hair

Add shine and luster to dull hair with a hair mask of egg and lemon. The folks at Pioneer Thinking offer this home recipe to beautify your hair. Crack an egg into a bowl and add the juice of one small fresh lemon. Use a wisk to combine the mixture. Use a turkey baster to suck up the liquid and apply it to your hair, starting at the roots. Once your hair is completely covered from scalp to ends, leave it in for 30 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly and then wash and condition as usual.
