The skin on the neck and chest is more sensitive because of the thin skin in that area. Most skin damage is from sun exposure. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, "The sun causes 90 to 95 percent of the wrinkles; lines; brown, red and white discolorations; and more on our bodies." Many of the same anti-wrinkle creams that are used on the face can be used on the neck for reducing wrinkles.

Sunscreen

The best anti wrinkle cream is a broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) sunscreen. "With daily use, a broad-spectrum sunscreen also may allow the skin to repair some of the damage" from the sun, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Using a sunscreen with a SPF of 30 or higher is recommended.

Coenzyme Q10 Creams

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) was shown in a Mayo Clinic study to reduce fine lines. CoQ10 may prevent some aging of the skin, and it softens and firms skin, but further testing is needed to study CoQ10 anti aging effects. The National Institutes of Health did find that CoQ10 applied topically was an effective antioxidant against photo aging.

Vitamin C Creams

Vitamin C applied topically to the skin stimulates collagen production thereby reducing winkles. Vitamin C creams are one of the best neck creams for reducing wrinkles because they also repair and protect the skin. Ascorbic acid is the main ingredient in a vitamin C cream.

Vitamin E Creams

Vitamin E creams are another good antioxidant cream that helps reduce the depth of wrinkles. Vitamin E has been show to "decrease skin roughness, length of facial lines, and wrinkle depth," according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Many skin creams contain vitamin E so there are economical choices in neck creams.

Moisturizers

Simple moisturizers lock in moisture, protect against the drying effects of weather and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They work by plumping up fine lines making the skin look younger and firmer. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends using a moisturizer as the first step in protecting and reducing wrinkles. A good moisturizer doesn't have to be expensive. Many reasonably priced neck creams have quality ingredients. Some of the more expensive wrinkle creams for the neck include fragrance in the ingredients, but fragrances do not make the cream more effective.

The best neck creams for reducing wrinkles include an active ingredient that is proven to reduce wrinkles. Retinols, alpha hydroxy acids, peptides, salicylic acid and some growth factors are proven to treat signs of aging. Many of these products increase sun sensitivity, so be sure to wear sunscreen when using these products.
