Greasy skin can occur at any age due to hormonal changes, stress and environmental toxins. With greasy skin, the sebaceous glands produce more than adequate oil to keep your skin moist. The result is clogged pores when this oil combines with bacteria and dead skin cells. Clogged pores then lead to the formation of pimples, posing a serious cosmetic concern for young and old alike. There are ways to stop the skin's greasiness and keep your skin well balanced.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin one to two times daily, using a gentle cleanser. Avoid over washing as this can cause skin to become overly dry, causing additional problems. You may use a gentle exfoliator to unclog pores as well as remove oils from the skin's surface.

Step 2

Apply a mud mask once a week. Mud soaks up excess oil while leaving you with proper moisture balance in the skin. Mud masks can be found at any local drugstore or beauty supply store.

Step 3

Apply an astringent. Astringent has an oil-drying property that will remove surface oils from the skin, along with helping to loosen trapped oils in the pores. Apply astringent one to two times daily to avoid overuse. An astringent can dry out your skin when used in excess.

Step 4

Keep your hair clean and away from your face. Greasy hair will distribute extra oils to the skin, leading to localized breakouts and shine.

Step 5

Use an oil-free makeup and apply a light dusting of powder on top of makeup applications. Baby powder soak up any excess oil throughout the day. It will leave your makeup looking fresh and prevent shine.

Things You'll Need

  • Oil-free facial cleanser or exfoliator
  • Mud mask
  • Astringent
  • Baby powder
