Updated, ad-free version of the iPhone app available

Posted by Lex | July 29, 2009 | 3 Comments

As we mentioned last week, a new version of LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker iPhone app is available now in iTunes! This version removes the banner ads that were introduced a week ago. We goofed, we're sorry, and we're most appreciative of your feedback and support. Download the update and go ad-free again!

We've already sent another new version to Apple to address a few occasional glitches with updating serving sizes and meal times. Stay tuned!

About those ads in the iPhone app...

Posted by Lex | July 22, 2009 | 12 Comments

We recently released an update to the LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker app for iPhone that addressed some bugs and crashes. The app, now sponsored by Nissan, also started sporting some ads.

Our members have told us, loudly and clearly, that the ads are too obtrusive. We're removing them. As soon as Apple approves our latest submission to the app store, the app will once again be ad-free.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Older / archived MyPlate data

Posted by Lex | July 20, 2009 | 36 Comments

A few weeks back, we archived a lot of older MyPlate data temporarily, in an attempt to shrink the size of our database so that The Daily Plate on LIVESTRONG would load faster.

We planned to un-archive the data that week.

Unfortunately, as some of you know first-hand, the un-archiving process has gone slower than planned. We've set and missed a couple goals for getting older MyPlate data restored, and we apologize sincerely for that frustration. Please know that our developers continue to strategize on how we can best restore that MyPlate data, and no information has been lost. We've been unarchiving member data each night, and we're still investigating faster ways to get this data back for you.

Gold members have been prioritized to the top of the pending queue for un-archiving.

We know this hasn't gone as well as it could have. Our top priorities are continuing access to your older data, and keeping the site snappy. We will work to resolve this issue as quickly as we can, and as always, we appreciate your support!

Fixes and updates galore!

Last night, our unstoppable development team rolled out a series of fixes and upgrades to the site. As part of these fixes, I have it on good authority that remaining archived MyPlate data should be restored over the next day or so. Stay tuned!

Here are other issues the team addressed:

1. Fix for the "Calorie Breakdown" chart
2. Fix for a bug where The Daily Plate tried to recalculate manually set calorie goals
3. Fix for properly calculating calories burned for members who were seeing 0 calories for each exercise
4. Fix for tracking running with LIVESTRONG Loops
5. Fix various issues with quotation marks and apostrophes, affecting search, display, and editing
6. Added ability to delete messages from your outbox (by hugely popular request!)
7. Fix for MyPlate CSV exports
8. Fix for Topic and Dare guides
9. Various optimizations to search
10. Improved page load times

Whew — that's a mouthful! As always, we welcome and appreciate your feedback. Let us know your thoughts!

The Tour de France, Lance, and LIVESTRONG.COM

Posted by Lex | July 9, 2009 | 1 Comments

As you're probably aware, LIVESTRONG.COM advisor Lance Armstrong is now several days into the grueling Tour de France, and he's sharing tons of exclusive videos and photos right here on the site. (You don't want to miss the video with Ben Stiller trying out Lance's bike!)

We've been thrilled and honored that the press keeps mentioning LIVESTRONG.COM in their stories on Lance:

LIVESTRONG Loops, bug fixes, and more!

Posted by Lex | June 26, 2009 | 28 Comments

Our unstoppable, incomparable development team rolled out a series of upgrades and enhancements to the site last night. Here's a quick overview:

1. Of course, the new LIVESTRONG Loops feature is amazing. Map out your walking, running, and biking routes, and we'll calculate the distance, the calories burned, and more. And we've already loaded the system with 20,000 great routes all around the world for you to explore.

2. Signatures for Gold members should be working better now when updated.

3. An issue with tracking weight in Kilograms has been corrected.

4. Our newly revamped Customer Support tool will help members get answers to their questions faster than ever.

5. The "Calories Over Time" chart wasn't displaying properly for members whose accounts were more than one year old. Now, the "net calories" line is again being drawn correctly.

6. An issue with adding foods to our database from brands not yet in our system has (finally!) been resolved.

7. "What I Do Regularly" wasn't working properly on MyPlate for some members. It should be now!

8. Various fixes to the Excel/CSV exports on the MyPlate page are now live.

9. Assorted issues with calorie calculation on certain sub-screens of MyPlate have been addressed.

10. The BMI chart works a bit better now.

Lots more to come — stay tuned! And yes, we're still working on restoring old, archived MyPlate data, but that should come soon.

Site performance improvements; notice on old MyPlate data

Posted by Lex | June 24, 2009 | 33 Comments

Last night, we took the site offline for about one hour while our amazing tech team performed a series of upgrades behind-the-scenes. The improvements made last night should make the site, particularly The Daily Plate at LIVESTRONG, noticeably snappier.

During those upgrades, we temporarily archived old MyPlate data, from more than 30 days ago. No data has been lost, and the data will be restored this week. Stay tuned!

LIVESTRONG.COM Scheduled Downtime For June 23rd

Posted by Lex | June 23, 2009 | 2 Comments

As Krisserin posted yesterday, we're celebrating LIVESTRONG.COM's first birthday. It's been an amazing year for us, and we've seen traffic on the site skyrocket. As you may have noticed, from time to time — especially around mealtimes — we've been experiencing some growing pains! The site can be frustratingly slow to use during peak hours for some of you, and that bugs us as much as it bugs you.

Our developers have come up with a plan to dramatically improve page load times across the board, and we don't want to hold back any longer. Tonight, at 9pm Pacific time (midnight Eastern), we'll be taking the site offline to make a series of improvements behind-the-scenes. We expect the changes will take about three hours all told.

Thanks so much for your patience and support, and look forward to a faster, snappier LIVESTRONG tomorrow morning!
