Ditch 3 Common Exercise Excuses
I always find it amusing that, because I'm a fitness trainer, people assume that I love to exercise and that I bounce out of bed every morning full of energy and ready to start my day with a workout. I wish it worked that way.
Yes, I do love the effects of exercise, especially the impact it has on my mental state, my body and my life, but it does not come easy.
One of the biggest challenges, and one reason fitness has become one of the biggest money-making industries, is the difficulty of figuring out how to get yourself motivated to work out. Almost everyone struggles with getting and staying motivated; we are only human after all.
3 Most Common Exercise Excuses - Busted!
1. "I don't have time."
If something is a priority, you will find a way to make it happen. I always find it ironic how the busiest people I know always seem able to squeeze in the time to work out. It's a myth that it takes a lot of time to workout. You can get a great workout in 20 minutes or less without even leaving your house. If you have a particularly busy day, try jumping rope for 15 minutes or popping in a workout DVD at home.
2. "There isn't a gym near my house/office."
You can get into the best shape of your life without stepping foot in a gym. Your body is the best piece of equipment. As I mentioned above, workout DVDs are a great option to help you get in shape without a gym membership. You can also go for a run or just find a routine like this one online to do at home or at a park.
3. "I don't know how to exercise or even where to begin."
Exercise is not rocket science. The hardest part is simply getting started. If you really have no idea how to be active, do research online. (LIVESTRONG.COM is a great place to start), buy a fitness magazine, enroll in a fitness program, or hire a personal trainer. Unless your doctor has specifically told you that you should not exercise at all, start by taking a walk around the block. There are also various exercise apps and workout videos that will take you through entire workouts based on your fitness level and goals.
Choosing not to exercise is just that, a choice. Ditch the excuses, and join me in the daily battle to look and feel fit and fabulous. Remember fit is the one look that never goes out of style.
