How to Set and Achieve Your Fitness Goals

All too often, we beat ourselves up about what we haven't achieved. Once we start doing that, it can be hard to motivate ourselves to continue working toward our goals. But look at it this way: A parent wouldn't punish a child if they took one step and then fell over. They would congratulate and praise the child for the one successful step.
Here are some tips to help you thrive:
1. Make It Fun
Before you start any kind of fitness routine, make sure it's something that you love to do. Find inspiration for your workout: Pump up the music or find a picture of your ideal body and put it on your wall.
If you're like me, working out with other people pushes you to go further. Find gym classes near you and encourage your friends and family to join in.
Keep your eye on the ball: It doesn't matter where you start, it's where you're headed that's important.
2. Make Every Step Count
Set a new goal to achieve every month. Maybe it's holding a plank for an extra minute or lifting 10 extra pounds.
At the end of the month, take stock. Even if you've only managed to hold your plank for an extra 30 seconds and lift another five pounds, you should still realize you've accomplished something.
Despite not reaching your goal, you're still ahead of where you were at the beginning of the month. Be happy about any progress -- that means you're one step closer to getting healthy and fit.
3. Make It a Habit
It's easy to say, "I want to look like her" or "I want a body like that." It's another thing to do something about it. But once you get going, the next challenge is to keep going. When I get in a rut, I think of this inspirational quote: "Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going."
When you get into a routine and start seeing results, leading a healthy, active lifestyle will become part of who you are.
