Happy New Year from the team!

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

All of us here behind-the-scenes at LIVESTRONG.COM want to wish you a happy, healthy, and inspiring 2009. We’ve really appreciated your support since our site launched a few months ago, and we look forward to helping you achieve whatever goals you set for yourself for the year ahead.

Whether you want to lose weight, spend more time with family, run a marathon, or just have more fun — we wish you the best of luck!

More on Dares…

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Our developers released a few updates to the new Dares engine yesterday. We addressed a few of the bugs you’d pointed out, and made tracking even easier. Dare Groups have already really taken off, and we’re thrilled!

As we mentioned earlier, we’re now seeking “Adopters” to take the reigns on our most popular dares. Dare Adopters can write the welcome messages that greet new dare takers, and they serve as a sort-of Chief Motivator for the other folks who take those dares.

Our first dare adopter is JCH3, who’s now the Adopter for Dare to Quit Smoking! Check out the great work she’s already doing on that dare!

If you’d like to adopt another dare, just let us know. We’re going to keep on improving Dares in the days and weeks ahead — stay tuned!

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Our astounding development team rolled out a major upgrade to our Dares system late last night (or early this morning), and we’re pretty excited about it.

Check out the Dares directory to see all the dares available. Most dares will have a custom tracker to help track your daily progress as you work to achieve whatever it is you’ve dared to do.

You’ll note right away that Dares are now more community-based, and each individual dare is centered on a unique group. For example, take a look at our hugely popular “Dare to Lose Weight” page.

Most Dares now have a custom tracker to help track your daily progress.

We will be selecting Dare Guides from the community to help moderate each dare, and to help all the dare takers achieve their goals.  Please let us know if you are interested!

Under each dare, we’ve now added two subtabs: Members and Resources.

Members (example) gives you an opportunity to see all the other members who are taking the Dare alongside you; this is fantastic, and it’s hard to believe we are just adding this feature now!

Resources (example) allows you to add any related links to articles or blogs back to your Dare!

Check out the all-new Dares, and let us know what you think!

Friday fixes

Friday, July 18th, 2008

A variety of fixes have been made here on LIVESTRONG.COM over the past few days. Here are some highlights!

1. Custom Dares are now working more reliably.

2. Updating groups (e.g., changing the description for a group you created) is now instantaneous, instead of taking a while to appear.

3. Friend request counts were sometimes off; this is now fixed.

4. Manually tracked fitness activities weren’t properly saving your heart rate. Now, they should be.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Fixes and upgrades to Dares, Groups, and more!

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

We’ve made another round of fixes and upgrades to The Daily Plate on LIVESTRONG.COM and the rest of the LIVESTRONG site, and I wanted to tell you about some of them now:

1. Pagination works better when browsing the groups directory.

2. Groups also now more accurately report the total number of blog posts in those groups.

3. Groups no longer show every post as being written “today.”

3. An issue where some members were having issues answering Questions submitted to Q&A by other members has been resolved.

4. We no longer use a gigantic font when you’re composing a message board post.

5. Certain HTML now works (again) when posting in groups on LIVESTRONG.

6. When a member comments on your food diary, the email you receive is no longer blank.

7. An issue with decimals in serving sizes for meals on MyPlate has been resolved.

8. The “Add to Favorites” button now works more reliably in areas like the Diseases section.

9. Recipes now show the serving size or measurement for each ingredient.

10. Dares have been given a polish, fixing a few small glitches, and adding the much-requested ability to add custom dares!

11. Gold Member progress bars should be working much more reliably.

As you can see, the time really has been working tirelessly (okay, they’re a little tired!) to keep making LIVESTRONG.COM better and better! As always, we urge you to check it out and let us know what you think!

Action Plan becomes My Dares, The Daily Plate on LIVESTRONG Launches

Monday, June 16th, 2008

We made a couple major changes under the hood yesterday, in anticipation of tomorrow’s public launch of LIVESTRONG.COM!

First, you’ll notice that your Action Plan is now called My Dares. LIVESTRONG.com is all about daring to change your life, so we thought the renaming made a lot of sense. You can give yourself a dare (like quit smoking, run a marathon, or get more sleep), or you can dare someone else. Read more about LIVESTRONG dares, and let us know what you think!

Important note for BETA testers: As part of this change to “My Dares,” some of the challenges on your Action Plan may need to be set again as Dares. You can find all the Dares right here.

We also officially launched The Daily Plate on LIVESTRONG last night. The Daily Plate is an application that lets you set a daily calorie goal, track the foods you eat each day, and achieve your weight goal — whether you want to lose weight, gain weight, or maintain. The best part is, our database of foods has more than 348,000 items. So whether you want to track a Big Mac, chocolate milk, or a California roll, you’ll find it in our database, and we’ll already know the nutrition facts!

There are a lot more LIVESTRONG.com features and announcements coming soon. We’ll keep you posted right here!
