Fixes, Features, and Privacy Enhancements

Friday, June 20th, 2008
  1. Preferences regarding how your name looks on your LIVESTRONG.COM profile have been fixed. You can choose to show everyone your real name, only your friends, or no one at all, right from the Preferences page.
  2. Private photos are now longer accessible when you email friends links to specific photos. Thanks to member cleardc for pointing out this issue.
  3. The “recent comments” module in individual Groups now only shows comments from that specific group, as expected.
  4. “Things I Do Regularly” on MyPlate works even more reliably.
  5. Food items you log on MyPlate no longer appear in your Friends Feed updates if your food diary is marked as private. (That’s a mouthful!)
  6. Some users who originally registered at the standalone version of The Daily Plate couldn’t login to LIVESTRONG.COM successfully. That’s been fixed.
  7. Some users had an issue while editing their LIVESTRONG profiles. The system would tell them that their email address was invalid — but you weren’t even editing your email address! This affects a few accounts where your email address actually went missing — a flaw that itself has now been fixed. So, when editing your profile, if you see that your email address is missing or blank, just fill it in to make sure we save your profile changes.
  8. Speaking of profile changes, some members could edit their profiles all they wanted, but nothing would save. This, too, has been fixed.
Wow. As you can see, our tech team doesn’t slack on Fridays, and they worked their hearts out to make sure all these fixes were in before the weekend.
There’s still plenty more work to be done, and our team shows no signs of stopping! Enjoy the weekend, and as always, let us know your thoughts!

New profile features and a few more bug fixes

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

A bunch of updates to share, so let’s get right to it!

1. You can now rearrange elements on your profile.
I, for example, love the Friends Feed, so I dragged mine higher up on my profile. I’ve also moved My Groups above my Friends List, because that’s more convenient for me. You can adjust the layout by clicking on the headers of profile modules and dragging them. Note that currently the top three modules are not movable.

2. Your last name is no longer required when editing your profile.
We thought we had this one fixed yesterday, but it still gave some members problems. Today, it is definitely fixed and working properly!

3. “What I Do Regularly” — a log of fitness activities you frequently track on MyPlate — is now working properly.
Most users weren’t having a problem, but if you’re a regular fitness tracker and you were
affected, you will be thrilled to know that this is fixed now!

As always, we value your feedback — let us know what you think!

New features and a host of bug fixes

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

LIVESTRONG.COM launched to the world just yesterday, but we haven’t started relaxing just yet. The team here has been hard at work behind-the-scenes on a host of feature improvements and bug fixes. Here are some recent upgrades that went live today:

  1. The water tracker on The Daily Plate’s MyPlate section no longer adds dozens (or hundreds!) of glasses on its own. Instead, it only adds glasses of water when you tell it to!
  2. When you add a food to MyPlate, we now automagically highlight the “servings” field, so that you can immediately update how many servings of that food you ate. As an added bonus, if the food you tracked would be too far down on the page to see right away, we’ll actually bounce you down the page so that you can see it without needing to scroll.
  3. Deleting fitness items from MyPlate now works as expected.
  4. If you originally registered at The Daily Plate standalone site, your profile data should now by more accurately synced. (Some of you were missing friends from TDP.)
  5. Your TDP Food Diary now has a new privacy setting: You can limit its readership to just your friends here on LIVESTRONG.COM.
  6. You are no longer required to include your last name on your profile. Your privacy settings will let you dictate whether your name is shown on your profile at all.
  7. The “Ideal Weight Calculator,” which was actually the “Laughably Inaccurate And Woefully Erroneous Calculator,” has been pulled from the site until it can be repaired. We apologize to those of you who used that calculator and saw its clearly incorrect results.
There’s a lot more in store! Stay tuned for more great features and fixes from the LIVESTRONG.COM team! We value your input; please let us know what you think!

Important Privacy Update

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Your health is personal. One of our goals with LIVESTRONG.COM is to help you connect with other members of our community with similar medical histories — members on similar medicines, or with similar diseases, for example.

Still, we recognize that some members may prefer to keep their specific medical information private. We’ve revamped the preferences page to make it easy to choose exactly what elements you’re comfortable sharing with everyone, what you’d like to share just with your friends on the site, and what you’d like to keep completely private.

Your privacy is very important to us. It’s our hope that these new, clear controls will help our members feel comfortable knowing exactly what they are and aren’t sharing, and with whom.
