The Top 25 ‘Dog Happy’ States in the U.S.
By JESS BARRON
Today is National Dog Appreciation Day (August 26), and my two dogs, Maggie and Zelda, are sprawled out on plush faux fur pillows to nap, luxuriate and be pampered. (Yes, today is really just like any other day of the year.)
Having a dog is good for your health — dog ownership is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease as well as lower levels of stress and lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
With all that they do for us, our dogs do deserve to be celebrated and thanked. Wondering how to celebrate National Dog Day? Here are 20 ideas.
At LIVESTRONG.COM at Demand Media in Santa Monica, our dogs can come to work with us, and many do. There’s even a well-populated #DogsOfDemandMedia hashtag. Our company has sponsored on-site employee dog adoption from a Los Angeles shelter, and one day the Human Resources department actually brought in 25 puppies for all of the workers throughout the office to play with and cuddle. Yes, we feel grateful for these dog-oriented perks.
Here at the office we were proud to hear that our home state, California, has been ranked the #1 most “Dog Happy” U.S. state, according to the 2015 Milo’s Kitchen ‘Dog Happy’ Survey.
To create this national doggy appreciation ranking, Milo’s Kitchen dog treats surveyed 3,000 dog people to determine how regularly they engage in thankful, grateful and loving behaviors with their dogs (such as buying regular gifts for their dogs, petting their dogs and telling their dogs "I Love You.")
Find out which other states made the list.
