Chronic Diarrhea Causes

Nutrition for Chronic Diarrhea

Diarrhea that lasts at least four weeks is considered chronic diarrhea. It may be related to a malabsorption disorder, a functional disorder like irritable bowel syndrome or an intestinal disease like Crohn's. In addition to symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea or loss of bowel control, it may lead to more serious conditions, including dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, metabolic acidosis and nutrient deficiencies. As a result, nutrition therapy plays a big role in treating diarrhea.
