Ancient Discus Throwing

The original Olympic games in ancient Greece were so important to societies at the time that if a war were raging, combatants would call a truce so that people could get to the games safely. Participants no longer call a truce during the modern Olympics, but other aspects of the games survive, including original sports such as discus throwing. The ancient version of the sport saw different materials used for the discus and a slightly different technique that might have affected how far an athlete could throw it.
