Does butter really contain Lactose?

Yes. Try Nucoa margarine. Or some varieties of Smart Balance are dairy free.

Blue Diamond puts out a variety of Almond Milks which are a great dairy substitute. I use the unsweetened orignial in many cooking recipes, but the sweetened ones are delicious too! Also, Whole Foods carries a line of Almond Cheese that is fantastic - especially the pepper jack. Great with crackers, tacos, etc.

Cows milk is GROSS. they pent the cows up in a stall so there is no exercise, they breathe manure smell all day, corporate farmers feed them a chemical that makes the cow produce 5 times more milk per day than is natural. Some cows are fed human waste for food (as are pigs). the Lactose is abnormally high due to lack of movement for the animals -- it is excreting the compound as a means of survival and then it is fed to people. pasturizing it kills the only potentially good elements in regular milk.

STAY AWAY FROM MILK and DAIRY. YUCK !!!!

I've been fairly good with eliminating dairy using substitutes like Rice Milk and Soy Yogurt, Goat's Milk Cheese, etc...but I truly miss ice cream. Does anyone know a good brand of lactose-free ice-cream? Thanks!

Soy dream makes an amazing butter pecan dairy free ice cream. The vanilla is okay, too.

If there is a Trader Joe's near you, they have a soy ice cream (soy yogurt also)

So far so good today.
I actually have a certain type of dairy intolerance that affects my skin more so than my digestion. I dont really know the science behind it (just following my nutritionist's orders) All I know is that I can eat chocolate and french fries all day long, but if I just breath in the direction of yogurt, ice cream, cottage cheese, etc. my face ends up looking like a relief map of Switzerland! I have been working some mild cheeses back into my diet over the past year, which hasn't been so bad....but hasn't been good either. Over the weekend I ate a few rather large spoonfuls of butter pecan ice cream. Delicious! And now Im paying for it. All I can say is thank god I have bangs.
Time to get back on track!

i'm in the same boat. this just started a year ago...i somehow deduced in the past couple of months that dairy has been a main contributor to painful, cystic acne (mainly on my cheeks, lower half of the face) i've been getting, which remains for weeks and then scars. coffee too. i don't know how long i'll be able to hold out, but i can't deal with the depression that ensues dealing with a face that looks like the moon. trade-off i suppose.

I had a piece of pastry at work that was made with butter and I thought to myself that a little bit won't hurt. But then came the heartburn that always comes with eating dairy. Every little bit makes a difference. But I suppose I don't need to be eating the pastries anyways. Going to a bbq today. Hopefully I can catch a burger before they put cheese on all of them.

Yes, I will stay away from ice cream and any and all bowls of cereals. That is my downfall

I am joining this group to be accountable to others and myself. My stomach hates me because am lactose intolerant, but I love dairy foods. So far today I have had a caffe misto (coffee with steamed milk) and a latte. I am going to make it my goalto not eat cheese today.

By HJHGold on July 22, 2009 at 08:10 AM

No dairy today, or yesterday...

By klar0421 on July 21, 2009 at 02:41 PM

2% string cheese, not that bad....

By ana-louise on July 16, 2009 at 10:07 AM

The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the quiche I had at lunch. apparently, there was only 100ml milk in the whole thing. I had a fifth so about 20ml, so shouldn't effect me too much.

Damn you taco dip!

By klar0421 on July 6, 2009 at 10:16 AM

Nope - mini angus cheesburger sliders for lunch...
