Hi, I was lactose intolerant for many years beginning with my 3rd pregnancy. About a year and 7 months ago, I started to improve my diet by eating more vegetables and lean meat and occasionally yogurt. I also stopped eating fast food and started exercising. I can eat any dairy now including a bowl of cereal daily. I also take a daily vitamin. I know that yogurt helps but I think the other changes helped too. I hope that this can help others as I know how bad I suffered.

Had hard cheese only but still would prefer to eat no cheese.

Didn't actively eliminate lactose today. I did not eat cheese or milk (as I haven't eaten milk in years) but I did consume milk chocolate and had caesar salad dressing.

I only seem to have real problems with dairy when it comes to milk, ice cream and yogurt. I drink Lactose free milk and avoid ice cream, but yogurt is a great snack to get me over the snack hump...anyone have any suggestions for replacement?

the brand Silk puts out Soy Yogurt. I have not had it, but i use the Silk Vanilla soymilk instead of regular milk and really like that.

I believe that the enzymes in yogurt actually digest the lactose sugars and shouldn't cause a lactose reaction. I do not have any problems with organic yogurts. Anything with high fructose corn syrup may irritate your stomach as well. I am lactose intolerant and use lactaid pills with any meal that has any hint of milk. Sometimes with cheese and ice cream I have to double the dose. Hope that helps. Stonyfield Farms has some great organic yogurt.

I take lactaid pills (or the generic version available at Walmart for very cheap) anytime I eat something with dairy, and it has allowed me to eat pizza, ice cream, milk, cheese, etc, with no signs of lactose intolerance. I still try to limit my intake of dairy, but on occasion it's great to be able to eat it if I want to.

Or not a problem? I have tried the Lactaid pills while consuming cheese once and they definitely weren't a cure-all. I don't typically eat or drink lactose containing products directly, but sometimes I get chips that are flavored and have milk as an ingredient. I wasn't too sensitive to this at first, but lately it seems to be a bother so I must resist the urge to eat 'creamy ranch soy crips' and the like.

Through past research, I have discovered that dairy products can cause stomach problems, skin problems, irritability, stomach problems, integestion and allergy symptoms. For most of my life, I have had these small bumps on the back of my arms. They are not that noticeable, but I can feel them and have always hated them. This past weekend, I had a dinner party and we all shared big assorted cheese plate (before dinner) and I made gorgonzola cheese string beans as a side at dinner... we finished up the evening with apple-cranberry pie (AL-A-MODE!!). Last night I noticed that the bumps were a little more prevalent and itchy. So I automatically stared thinking about dairy again and have decided to eliminate it from my diet for 10 days to see what happens. So far so good today.. I had egg salad in a cup. Nope.. eggs are not dairy and no, mayo is not dairy! I plan to go shopping later to buy more choices, including soy milk for my coffee. :)

Thanks for the insight. I've been lactose intolerant since birth but began to add dairy back into my diet as an adult. I've had bumps on the back of my arms for years and never knew the cause. I recently (mid-Dec) went dairy free and the bumps are nearly gone. I didn't make the connection until I read your post.

Do these bumps come up like little bubbles of liquid that a really screaming itchy?
I would never have connected it to lactose intolerance. I thought maybe a contact allergy.
Must check further into this, Thanks.

I know it has been a while but I seem to have the same bumps on my arms as you do and I was wondering if cutting lactose helped with them?
