I have Hypoglycemia and sugar sensitivities. Eating better has really improved my health but sometimes I need encouragement to pass on the goodies.
I am currently reading "The Diabetic Solution" which I have heard is fairly amazing. Until I am done researching I am going to use the South Beach Diet Plan~ in addition to cutting out processed food as opposed to the ADA diet which I don't like.
Recently found out that I have Diabetes. My grandmother, father, & 2 sisters also have it. My doctor said that I must have "caught" it too...lol. He's funny. So, I will go back to the doctor today to discuss what type of Diabetes I have, and what steps I need to take in order to control it. I had already changed my diet 3 weeks ago and I have lost 10lbs. Now that I have Diabetes, my diet will change even more. I ready for it!
Diabetes runs in my family. I'm only 19 and I'm quite worried that I will eventually end up having diabetes since recently I have gained quite a bit of weight. I'm tired alot and not motivated to do much of anything. I don't want to be like this anymore and I want to help myself before it's too late. I'm daring to lose my excess weight and to maintain healthy eating habbits to avoid the chance of diabetes.
SINCE JAN HAVE LOST 60 LBS HAVE BEEN EXERCISE 3-5 DAYS A WEEK AND MAKING SMART CAL CHOICES. A GREAT SUMMER DESSERT I FOUND SUGAR FREE ANGEL FOOD CAKE (65 CAL) TOPPED WITH FRESH STRAWBERRY AND BLUEBERRIES AND A LITE COOL WHIP DROPPED A1C FROM 7.6 (IN JAN)TO 5.2 (THE TEARS OF JOY BEGAN TO FALL AS THE DOC WENT OVER MY TEST RESULTS.)
Any experience out there with pre-diabetes, got that diagnosis last month, now obessed with finding the perfect no-sugar chocolate items, like the puddings---any others?
It's great that you are taking the warning seriously! I never did because I wasn't "obese" and it didn't run in my family. About three years later, I ended up with full blown diagnosis,I was tired all the time, gaining weight and not happy. You really can stop it through diet and exercise. It's worth it. The more your sugar is out of control, the harder it is too loose weight and the easier it is to gain. I recently lost some weight, exercise and now, after five years, my A1c in almost in normal range. I feel better than ever.
As far as low sugar alternatives.... as an every day treat, there are a lot out there and they taste good. I never deny myself an occasional normal sweet, I just eat a smaller portion and take a short 15-20 minute walk afterwards. The walk actually brings the glucose reading down immediately!
ate a whole 1 lb NY strip for dinner. Whew! Glad I worked so hard at housecleaning this am, and made myself work out toady at the gym on the elliptical. Still sore from trying out the kettlebell....not losing much weight, but my mood is great(except for the steak, have been good for days) and my body is feeling "harder".
I've learned that one sure way to keep my eating habits healthy and under control is to go on diets' I'm considering starting this diet but I havent been diagnosed with Diabetes. Although it wouldn't suprise me because of the amount of things I gluttonized in the past 2 years. I could use a word of advice about this from any of you on this diet.
Do you mean ediets.com? Good start for me, keeps track of vitamin intake, and calcium etc. Used it for a month, and by then I knew what to eat, etc. It was an excellent learning tool. But after that month, I found I only used the calorie counting tool, and didn't want to pay for it. So I switched to this website. Gives me everything I use for free.
BTW, I was shocked to learn I have diabetes; just being overweight can cause it, and sedentary lifestyle, plus genetics.
A diabetic diet is merely a healthy diet. Lots of veggies, whole grains, limit fat, etc. The Food Pyramid, which everyone should follow. Keep weight under control, and diabetes might disappear. High blood pressure and high cholesterol can become non-problems, too.
It is not really a diet, as much as a lifestyle change. I should and hopefully will eat this way forever. Of course, there are splurge days, which is OK, as long as I go back to healthy eating again. Moderation is key. Hey, eating is still a real pleasure, and I'm losing weight and getting healthier at the same time.
What should I write on these posts? Not very many of us here on this website, which is amazingly good by the way.
I'm a newly diagnosed type 2, a retired RN, was totally freaked out at first, but now hope to control the disease with diet and exercise. So far so good, even though I slacked off from Thanksgiving till Christmas; at least did not gain weight, but sugars began to rise. Better already, after only a week.
What does everyone want to hear about? I am really into this, have quite a bit of professional knowledge, and now have personal experience as well.
We all need motivation...can we help each other?
BS=120; found a deal on a snowblower, baked bread, made a healthy dinner and forced myself to go to gym. 30 grueling minutes on the elliptical (couldn't get the right music going, so not as much fun). Knee hurt, but did it anyway. Thought of skipping my leg workout on the weight machines, but forced myself to do that too. Glad to be home. Dinner OK, the pork not as good as the chieken the other night...I need more practice with the bread machine; eagerly awaiting my replacement baking stone.
Had planned to bake multigrain bread and go to gym, but found a great deal on a new desk at Meijers, so...ate lunch at Bob Evans, worked on desk all day, and ate dinner at Appelbee's. Still, kept cals under limit. Feel a bit bad about no exercise, but at least did not veg out in front of TV all day. We did get out first snow storm of the season today...wonder if the gym was as crowded as usual....oh well, tomorrow is another day.
ate 4 tbsp of rf pb on white bagels, fried mozz sticks, choc milk. Horrible diet for nutrition and sugar control!!!!!!!! Need to do better. Have started label reading.
blood sugar only 121 today, not bad...
tried the elliptical machine at the gym today, wore my brace. only minor pain, and feels good right now.
Lifted weights.
counting every calorie...
mood is excellent, feelin' so good
Knee hurts again today, but I'll hit that gym tomorrow no matter what; wear that brace and find something that doesn't hurt!
Getting OCD about counting cals and fat grams, but I feel so much better when I eat right, and counting MAKES me eat right. I am amazed at how much better my mood has become, not to mention energy level.
