My local blood bank has made incentive-driven people like me an offer I can't refuse. On their website I get points for signing up for and keeping an appointment. Then I get points for giving (duh!). It helps to have the email reminder from them too.

i like the email reminder idea, i'll have to ask our bank to set something up.

Iron was just a smidgen too low - 12.3... should have had more protein for lunch! Trying again next Monday. Plan? Eat ham & cheese omelet for breakfast with a side of bacon!

I've given blood once I got really sick while doing it.
Giving blood is a good cause and can save a live. I want to try again, Our hospital has another blood drive coming up at the end of the month Oct. 28th. I plan to do it then.

I've been donating since 1995-ish, up to 22 units. Despite my issue with rolling veins (yeah, it's fun, let's wiggle that needle around until it gets in the vein), I still go every 56 days! I've been concerned about my iron levels since becoming a vegetarian, but no issues yet! I think my levels are actually higher now. Next donation: October 6th.

By cookie_riot on August 22, 2009 at 01:04 PM

Good luck! I've been a vegetarian since I've been old enough to donate and I've never had issues with iron levels, so I hope the same is true for you!

Does anyone know where there is a red cross in eastern Oregon?

By shirkey on August 19, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Maybe you found a place at school already, but start by entering your zip code at givelife.org. If that doesn't turn up anything (it often doesn't...redcross is by far not the only place to donate) there's an aabb.org link offered that has another chance to search by zip.
