I was just thinking last night I should cut down on the coffee, and checked here this morning. I only drink water, coffee, and tea, and was thinking, what else is there to drink that's good for you? I stopped drinking tonic over 3 years ago, stopped drinking fruit juice about 2 years ago (had my OJ every morning then), stopped drinking crystal light a few months ago because of the aspartame. Maybe I need to change my mindset about water, the way I no longer hat salad?

Of course, I'm drinking coffee as I write this. Which is why I'm here. Way too much coffee.

no longer hate salad, not "hat"-although that would be pretty funny.

Only 12 ounces of Mtn. Dew and 8 ounces of Coke today!! That is a whole lot better than 80+ ounces a day.

I am drinking a mtn dew as I type this. It is to get rid of the migraine caused by me having no sleep and being up all night dealing with the cops and the attempted burglary at my house. I had a early morning appointment and I think under these circumstances I am allowed a lil caffeine right?

Oh you sooo deserve that Dew girl!

I am on day 10 without a soda. I was drinking 6 Dr. Pepper a day before.

Way to go! That's very good!

I am sooo addicted to diet coke, just the thought of not drinking it in the morning and throughout the day makes me nervous!

Almost made it without any, but enjoyed a 1/2 caf iced coffee. Feel more energetic than when I drink multiple cups.

I am 4 and 1/2 months pregnant and although my doctor told me that I can drink 8 oz. of coffee per day, I am certain that it dehydrates me and that it may have contributed to the premature labor of my first child, who is perfectly healthy, but was born 1 month early. I beat myself up about caffeine because I would like to quit it just for my pregancy and maybe beyond. But it is so difficult to quit. I LOVE COFFEE. I NEED a cup every morning to face the world. I feel like I have tried everything and so I am going to try this group. Tomorrow is Saturday and I am going to NOT HAVE ANY CAFFEINE. (I hope...)

I find that stopping cold turkey on anything has never worked for me. How about if you figure out what you typically drink in a day, and cut that number in half and aim for that for a week or two? If you slip and have more, at least overall you're still drinking less. Then assess how you feel-have you had good days, bad days, irritable days, any headaches from caffeine withdrawal?

If you're not as happy with your personality and how it's going, stick with it another week. If you're doing OK, then cut that in half again. and keep going from there.

Habit has a big reason for why I do some things, and I'm working on that, too. My morning cup, my drive to work cup, my OMG I need to have something in my hands cup, my it's right after lunch cup, my afternoon I'm not going to eat anything bad so instead I'll have coffee cup.

I hope you made it through the weekend OK.

I haven't had a single drink of caffeine in a week and a half. It feels good.

By milkristin on June 15, 2010 at 04:39 PM

Great job! Any headaches?
