I was pretty good today, but still turned in a high number of 368. I think it was from munching the snack mix at work. OK, so I wasn't so good ALL day.
is there a rule of thumb to calculate what a reasonable # of carbs you should take in a day? I try to shoot for a third of my calories for carbs, protein and fat, but also look for high fiber/low or no sugar foods. When you guys post a number, are you subtracting out the grams of fiber? For instance, i ate 176 g today, but 14g were fiber.
I've been going with the number that TDP gives me, but you're right...fiber should be taken into account. I've been explaining high carbs in my posts on days when I ride 20+ miles and need to replace burned stores of carbs for the next day's ride. There are clearly times when high carbs are called for. What I'm saying is, there's time for carbs and there are good carbs and bad carbs that are not distinguished in this dare. Just keep in touch with your carb intake through this dare and I think you will benefit. The number is just one tool.
Weird Day diet wise. Not bad, just out of the routine. A little heavy on the carbs. Next week will be better.
I know 225 isn't anything to write home about. That's why I'm writing to you. 225 is a good day for me. Getting better all the time.
ooh, didn't count them. but I know I had them. mini saltine crackers have them, and I think theres some in chicken which was in my salad, also, i had a wholegrain cereal bar this morning.
310 is still a big number, but I've been eating most of my carbs early in the day and tapering off to complex carbs later if at all. I just read that this is a good strategy, and it has translated to weight loss and a relatively satisfied hunger feeling after the dinner hour.
I rode almost 40 miles today, so I needed to replace a bunch of carbs. These big ride days wreck my carb plan, but it's important to refuel the carb tank after 3 hours of physical exertion. It's the non-ride days that I need to focus on and so far it's been positive.
Holy Canoli. 122 is a very good carb day for me. I'm going on a big bike ride tomorrow, so I hope I put enough in the tank, but I've been focussed on fat loss this week. Most of my carbs came from a splurge on a egg/bagel sandwich this morning. Otherwise, not much carbs today. I'm happy.
Hey Everyone,
I'm starting the induction phase of Atkins today. I joined the Atkins dare but it does not seem like any one is active in it. I'm going to do induction for at least two weeks, to give my body a kick. I've been working out for 5 weeks now and tracking (calories) for almost two weeks. My body needs to catch up! Atkins will get it on board....
Keep up the good work!
I did Atkins several years ago with great results. I didn't even do any exercising with it and still lost lots of weight. You're off to a good start by getting fit beforehand. The induction phase will go by quickly and you will lose weight. Be strict with yourself. Any deviations from the plan will mess it up, but if you stick with it, it will work.
In my case, I found it hard to stick with after awhile, which was the case with so many of my diets. With kids in the house I found it very difficult to make the lifelong commitment to skip the carbs. Too much junk food around with my boys having influence over the shopping list. However, if you take the weight off, which you will, and keep tracking your diet on here, and keep working out, you will keep the weight off.
191 today...wow, super good day. Makes me wonder if I neglected to track something. Nope, it's all good. I did good today.
220g today. That's almost 74% according to the 'My Calorie Breakdown' chart on the daily plate page. Urgh.
I am wondering what the optimal carb, fat, protein ratio should be for a normal person...that is, someone who doesn't have carb, or other, issues. I assume it should be equal parts, but perhaps that is naive. I am usually way higher on the carbs than the others, but on most days I think that my intake has been appropriate. Anyone?
397 is a little high for me on a non-ride day. I did exercise today, but I think the bagels did me in.
OK, so I was way over where I wanna be on carbs today. I didn't ride, so I can't use the post-ride load as an excuse. I was fine until I got to work and the bar was crazy and all those bar snacks were sitting there and I chowed down on some Utz Honey-Wheat Pretzel Twists. They are hard to resist once you eat just one.
Also, on Friday nights the kitchen guys make us dinner before the rush. Tonight it was chicken fingers and french fries which is so bad for a dieter trying to watch carbs. I try to not make their job harder, so I ate it cheerfully, but it was not what I would have chosen and I ate too much of it.
I also remembered tonight that I eat worse when stressed, and the restaurant definitely had me stressed right from the get go today.
Lesson: it is hard to eat well when working in a restaurant. I have to be stronger tomorrow and onward.
I have been way over on my carbs the last few days, due to post-ride carb/protein loading. I was less than impressed after the first try. My legs felt sluggish the next day. Today, however, I felt great on my ride. I didn't even think about my legs except for a sprint up a minor climb. The fact that I could sprint on a climb was proof positive. Also, I lost weight again yesterday. As much as I want to control my carbs and not do something stupid like eat a piece of cake before bed, I think I'll continue to load up after a ride. The number is just a number, but the results speak for themselves. If I have strong feeling muscles on a ride, I'll be able to burn more calories.

I saw in the Dr. Oz [or the other doc] u tube that you should eat 25-35g fiber each day to help scrub out your vascular and digestive systems. I rarely reach this, paricularly because I am shooting for having more of my calories come from protein until I can really ramp up my exercise. Just by virtue of having a limited calorie intake goal, I have to shoot for very high fiber carbs [plus take psyllium].
