Dare to Eat less sodium

Eat less sodium to reduce blood pressure and maintain a healthy weight. Too much salt in the diet can trigger cravings, make you retain water and create a dietary imbalance.

... Went to an all you can eat sushi place today...the amount of sodium consumed is ridiculous.
I got the wrong cereal (in bulk), so now I'm eating ~500mg more sodium than I'm used to and have been hovering around 2000mg a day. I'll need to be more careful next time.
The last two weeks have been very hectic, but I managed to stay below my goal of 2000mg seven of the days and just barely go over four of the other days. :D
Kept my numbers under 1500 the last four days! Woo Hoo! But boy, there are some sodium filled foods that are a surprise ... Cheese!
Wednesday =1425. My goal is 1500, Since my Doc says all overweight should stay under 1500 mg as part of their whole weight loss effort. The more I read about how it is high sodium, not just obesity, that causes all the heart disease in USA, well, I get very motivated to stay under 1500!
I agree about the motivation. I didn't realize how exactly sodium affected your health until recently and it makes a lot of sense. Many people know that cholesterol is bad, but they don't realize that weakened/torn blood vessels (caused by water retention caused by too much sodium) traps that cholesterol.
Yes! It is the high sodium we put in our bodies that creates the condition for instigating high cholesterol!
Have been away for awhile, vacationing. Too much sodium stuffed restaurant food! But getting back to healthier eating. Tues., 1060 mg. Wed., 672 mg. Even with just two days of eating healthier, my puffiness subsiding...can tell by how my rings fitting. Thinking my heart is thankful!
My sodium number was in red, so Im guessing that means I went over:( must have been the low fat shrimp spring roll..
2000. Went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and was mindful of my sodium (salad and grilled chicken with a dry rub). MyPlate didn't have a sodium count, so I'm estimating 1250mg based on the sodium in flour tortillas, cheese, and the rub.
Today and, quite possibly the next few days, will be hard. Today, my boyfriend and I are driving to his parents' house. One of my favorite pizza joints is on the way and we'll probably be eating at one of my favorite burrito joints once we get there. I estimate I'll be around 2,300mg. There's a wedding tomorrow evening, which will probably have unhealthy food, as well. Then, Sunday-Tuesday, I'll be at a beach house with my boyfriend's family. No clue what we'll be eating, but I can guess that it won't be too healthy. I'll be sure to bring my water bottle and try my best to pick the healthiest option presented to me.
2419 - not as bad as I thought.

Since Monday been under my goal, ya ya sis ba. Anyway scheduled to eat out on my birthday Friday and Saturday but I've looked both restaurants up and planned my menu. It will be over but not extremely bad. Will try to remember to drink extra water.
You're so prepared! I can hardly think through what I'll do this day, let alone this Fri/Sat.! Good for you!
Wow, today was a good sodium day! I didn't really eat any processed foods, but I did use salt on dinner and ate salty almonds. So the sodium must really all come from the processed foods!
So true! I've started cooking again and the sodium level seems to be dropping quickly. But I really was craving a Chik-fil-a sandwich today! The snow pea pods actually cut the craving, but wasn't nearly as much fun...
I was so busy that I needed something quick to mix for the family, so I made chicken fingers, baked fries and a salad. I had some bad things that day and it made my sodium sky high! Over 3,000...get back up and do better Saturday, I tell myself. I feel this is my first MAJOR fall and I don't like how it feels one bit!
One's health is one's greatest wealth! A whole new month to focus on health! Nutritious healthy eating that promotes a healthy body! And a healthy body is a normal weight body!
I've been having a hard time managing my sodium since I visited my relatives. Looking at the chart is a bit encouraging, though, because I see that only 5/9 days were over my goal and 4 of those days were less than 100mg over. I hung out with a friend from college today and ate a whopping 2000mg of sodium for lunch (pizza, actually) and have decided that today is my last day of not managing my sodium properly! :D
Sounds like you did really well while with relatives, always a difficult task! And betting this once in awhile lunch with friend had definite Life Benefits...so a break from sodium counting here and there probably beneficial . Not like you have decided to supersize fries every day for the next week or eat at Quiznos or Schlotsky's the next four days in a row. Everyone needs a bit of a break, but it is always great to keep tabs on what we are doing to our bodies.
Thanks! 879 mg today - the lowest I've been since I started tracking a little over a month ago. It feels good to know that I can control my sodium when I put my mind to it.
Saturday...1389. No restaurant food!
2057. Weekends are hard for me! I tend to treat myself at breakfast with a homemade breakfast bowl or pancakes. I'm thinking of making my weekday goal 1500 mg and weekend goal 2000 mg.
Weekends are difficult. Your goals sound very healthy, especially compared to those consuming 3000 per day or more!
The week going not so great, since my goal to stay under 1500. One day of fast food was bad...one sandwich had more than 1700 mg of sodium! Deadly!
Sunday, 1647. Mon, 1860. Tues, 2614! Wed, 897.
Wed., Thurs., Fri., were all pretty good. Today was very good. 1562mg. I think that is great for a Saturday, when I usually indulge on WEAKends!
Best to all out there trying to be healthier!
