Friday's sugars highest of the week ... 25.

By ShadySally on February 6, 2011 at 07:01 AM

But a nice low Saturday sugar number ... 6.

By ShadySally on February 3, 2011 at 07:13 AM

Wednesday's sugars ... 10 !

By SaraLA82 on February 3, 2011 at 07:04 PM

That is so awesome! I'm happy when mine are below 100, but today was only two small little brownie bites at the young lawyers luncheon I attended, the rest are mostly fruit.... I saw your quotes on your profile page - loved them!!

By ShadySally on February 4, 2011 at 08:04 AM

Glad you stopped by my profile page...yes, those quotes really help me stay focused. My current mantra "NOTHING tastes as good as being thin feels" ... but it can certainly be a chore working toward that THIN status. (And I mean THIN not just for vanity, but for health too! During 2010 I lost enough to get off of Blood Pressure medicine and cholesterol medicine. Plus my edema--caused by too much weight, too much sodium -- is gone, and the 'pins and needles' neuropathy -- caused by too much weight -- is also gone.)
Wishing everyone here a SLIMING FRIDAY! We CAN do this!

Thursday's sugars ... 12.

By SaraLA82 on February 1, 2011 at 10:53 AM

When tracking sugars, are you also counting the sugars in fruit??? A lot of my sugar count comes from fruit and I don't want to cut that out.

By ShadySally on February 2, 2011 at 07:47 AM

Sugar is still sugar ... Fruit offers other healthy benefits (fiber, vitamins) that candies and such do not. So if weight loss is a goal, more than one or two pieces of sugar will affect your weight loss plan. Veggies offer many of the same nutrients as fruit , green, red, yellow peppers have more vitamin C than an orange for example. spaghetti squash has more potassium than a banana. So if a low sugar plan is what you've chosen for weight loss, those fruit sugars DO count.

If you're striving to eat healthier... swapping out a bag of Doritoes for an apple. Stick with the apple!

Good luck with your goals!

thanks Sally - interesting thought. But, if I can greatly reduce my consumption of refined sugars, I think that will be a win.

By ShadySally on February 2, 2011 at 02:27 PM

Definitely! Most of us don't find ourselves overweight because we've overindulged in Fruit!

Sally - what is the RDA for Sugar? I don't know why the nutrient tracker doesn't set a daily goal for sugar like it does for fat, carbs, protein, sodium.

By ShadySally on February 2, 2011 at 02:29 PM

25 for women, 36 for men.

By ShadySally on February 1, 2011 at 05:03 PM

Was out of town for a week, didn't check in. But back now ... Monday was 47, all but 18 from fresh fruit. Tuesday was lower... only 7 grams!

By kabrina on February 1, 2011 at 01:29 PM

I refuse to count fruit/veg sugar; fruit and veggies are so good for you!

This 15 grams came from one small, nutrient-packed,gluten-free piece of bread, one serving of pretzels, and one dessert tofutti cutie.

Not exactly terrible choices, yet it maxed me out for non fruit/veg sugar for the day!

Oh well, I feel great =)

Need to commit to this. I eat so well - except i've developed a habit of a daily treat - pretzel m&ms or a chocolate chip cookie, or a brownie, something with refined sugar. I don't know what my problem is - i find it so hard to cut out. So hard.

And i'm sabotaging myself - i don't see the weight come off even though i'm within my calorie goals most of the time...(i need to be more consistent too - usually one weekend day throws me off). FRUSTRATING.

By kabrina on January 31, 2011 at 01:03 PM

Waaaay over my goal, thanks to just one serving of soy yogurt and one tiny vegan ice cream sandwich. This is going to be tougher than I thought.

By emjp90 on January 29, 2011 at 11:22 AM

I consider myself to be mostly healthy, but sweets can be tough to resist. I want to stop eating deserts and drinking sugary coffee drinks. I will still eat fruit and one piece of dark chocolate a day. My goal is to not care about or be tempted by deserts in front of me and always say "No thank you"

By ecornatzer on January 27, 2011 at 09:22 PM

treated myself to a latte and m&ms

Found an article here at Livestrong that quotes recommendations from the American Heart Association. They recommend no more than 25 grams a day for women and 36 for men.

But there are many articles out there that suggest going even lower than this for weight loss efforts.

Thanks for the info! I've been trying to find some more articles and have yet to have a chance.Great work keeping those sugars that low!!

By lisajean55 on January 24, 2011 at 10:54 AM

I just joined this group - sugar is my worst enemy. Once I start I can't stop! I will continue to eat fruit, but my goal is to stop eating refined sugar.

By ShadySally on January 24, 2011 at 05:59 AM

Sundays sugars under control ... 6 ! AND an important marker for me in my weight loss 'journey.' MY 35TH POUND IS GONE!

By ShadySally on January 22, 2011 at 05:59 AM

Friday's sugars 8! Now...to the weekend, the most difficult two days of the week for me!

By ShadySally on January 23, 2011 at 07:01 AM

Saturday's sugars kept under control... 7!

By MrsDufresne on January 22, 2011 at 04:23 AM

DAMN! I just read that I am supposed to have under 13grams of sugar a day...I am still double that and I've cut out candy and sweets!!! NOW what??? I thought fruit was a good thing?

By ShadySally on January 22, 2011 at 06:01 AM

Where did you read that you weren't supposed to go over 13? Although the weight WILL drop off if you do. Fruit is a healthy food. But it's not always a great weight loss choice. Veggies have a lot of the same nutrients as fresh fruit with a lot fewer sugars. Once I've reached my goal and in 'maintenance mode' then fruit will definitely be back in my life!

By MrsDufresne on January 22, 2011 at 09:57 AM

I actually read that on the LiveStrong site.I'm not sure, but I think it was for lowering sugars and the glycmic index and all that. Maybe I read it wrong but I read a couple articles and they pretty much said the same.It did list the fruit that was less high in sugars, and all but...Makes it a little (real) disappointing...

By ShadySally on January 23, 2011 at 07:00 AM

If I remember my numbers right, and I might not, the FDA recommends no more than 24 grams per day. In Canada they allow up to 40 grams, as told to me by a friend there. Was this a number strictly put out there in an article about losing weight? Or just about healthy living as a normal weight person? Going to see if I can find this article here at Livestrong.

By xan888 on January 21, 2011 at 09:51 AM

1 gram of sugar today, and only 0.8 yesterday! Also, only 2 carbs a day! Cutting back feels good! :)

By ShadySally on January 21, 2011 at 06:00 AM

Thursday's sugars, 10. Did anyone see Dr. Oz show on all the horrible things sugar does to us, besides making us fat? Fascinating!

By ShadySally on January 20, 2011 at 10:10 AM

Had my first restaurant dessert on Tuesday since New Year's Day ... yum it was good! But watching the weight come off is soooo much better! Wednesday Sugars, 7!
