Congratulations that is such a good feeling! It's tough to be out of work--you are going to feel so much more fulfilled :)

I did a LS Dare the last time I was actively on DailyPlate. I dared myself to start a relationship--and a couple months later, I think it was about two, I did! And we're so happy and still together. I have absolute faith in daring myself to do more and believing it will happen for me.

I am new to this dare, but I am very passionate about it. I have a part-time job right now 3 days a week that barely takes care of food shopping and gas each month let alone all the other bills I have to pay. It is my goal to either get another part-time job, or a full-time job to replace this one.

It's the end of the year and I know response will pick up come January--my goal is have a job or jobs making enough money to live by the end of January. That is my goal.

Having the support of follow job seekers will be a big help :) Good luck to you all.

Just moved to a small town, to be near family. Must find work. Have an interview Tuesday. Applying for everything right now--take what I can get, then look to moving up to a career.

By Anonymous on November 7, 2010 at 03:26 PM

Goal is to find a new career that I enjoy doing. Between now and the end of the year I will 1) Revise my resume and professional profiles 2) Focus on doing one networking item each day.

I am a job developer and a recruiter. I was unemployed for several months, I decided to "think outside of the box" I used my degree and skills to contract with company's that outsource. Non-profit companies are great to work with. I conduct interviews and review resumes to help organizations to select the right applicant. Many people have transferable skills, do not keep looking in the area that you were condition in, but look at other areas that has some of the same qualifications.

That is great advice, but so difficult to appl - Expecially now when anyone looking for a job is overwhelmed by resumes to review. Resumes are really just a waste of time at this point. It is all about creating an opportunity and getting in the door without having to go through HR.

billchilders;

go directly to the department that you are interested in and tell that you are willing to volunteer your services for several weeks or a month to prove yourself. Still look for various opportunities within the company. Volunteering is easier through a non-profit than corporate because of the laws, but make an effort to go this route. good luck to you.

I think you're giving good advice but it's not always necessarily easy to get work in another field, even with transferable skills.

In my experience employers want to see (and have the pick of a large unemployed group) people who've done or are doing the job already.

Believe me, I've tried this approach and it's not even led to an interview! I wish it had.

Hi Guys,

Could somebody give me his (expert) advice on this:

I graduated back in 2007 (MBA) and straight after started in a sales job at a big IT company. I already had some years sales experience at a small firm, so thought it would be a good and intersting step to take.

However, due to lack of internal support and personal attributes I completely burned out two years down the line.

It has taken me quite some time to come to part with my burn out and really - really - want to move on.

Had a great job interview last week (not in sales anymore but in IT analyst role), but didnt perform the way I envisioned. I find it hard to talk about my burnout experience in job interview (afraid they might label me as a person that has a problem)..

However, I belief talking openly about it will only help me to defuse my emotions and focus on the job interview not my own demons.

What would you reccomend me? How to adress my burn out period in a positive way without damaging me? What not to tell?

Thanks for your inputs

DO NOT TALK about your burnout. Just tell them you realize you prefer working in "X" instead of sales. Then talk about your skills for the position involved. Absolutely don't put down your current job or employer. They will immediately nix you from consideration. You should only talk about your skills and talents and enthusiasm for the new role. I can't express that strong enough. Talk openly about it with your friends. Don't carry that baggage into the interview. Think positive thoughts before sitting down and interviewing.

For I.T a lot of companies are looking for contractors.

By billcchilders on October 30, 2010 at 04:02 PM

Talking about burn out is a bad idea.

Hi Everyone, I hope this help you

www.Simply hired.com is a great website. Also consider contracting your services to companies. If you go to simply hired put in contract. Ex. Contract Recruiter. You will find it to be helpful

By mappeal on October 18, 2010 at 01:59 PM

I'm currently working part time on a temporary contract that will be coming to an end soon. I have to find work before I leave my current job as I've got a mortgage to pay.
Feeling a bit stressed about the situation as there aren't a lot of jobs out there!

By tj7572 on October 6, 2010 at 11:40 AM

I am COMPLETELY re-thinking my career. Instead of allowing myself to be bottled up in what my experience says I can do, I am pursuing what is inside of me. I will CREATE the job I want, and with a company I want to work for. I feel SO empowered!

By mariepraymond on October 14, 2010 at 10:33 AM

Im at the same place..I want Empowered!
