Very brief few minutes, hopefully will get to spend more time this evening.

I took Primordial Sound meditation lessons in January and started out meditating twice a day like I was supposed to. Due to a busy schedule and spring gardening, it wasn't long before it became once a day, then rarely. I've been trying to start it up on a regular basis again instead in moments of high stress.
My goal is to start meditating once per day for a week then start adding the second meditation in every other day the second week, then begin twice daily the third week. We'll see if that works!

Well... I can safely say I have NEVER mediated before... so I am going to look it up online and get some pointers.. maybe buy a book this weekend with ideas and tips in it. I have Generalized Anxiety and I think this would really help me to be a bit more laid back... not so worried and feeling the need to be in control all the time.

A few pointers for you -- don't be discouraged if you have difficulty with the meditation at first. It's natural for your mind to wander. Just gently bring it back to your breath or your body or your mantra or whatever your meditation happens to be. It'll take some time but eventually you may find it very beneficial. It's been helpful for me with my anxiety. You might want to start with a simple meditation like the following.
Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight. You can close your eyes if you feel like you're awake enough not to fall asleep. Put your hand on your stomach and your other hand on your chest. Breathe in deeply. As you're breathing in, you should only feel your stomach move, not your chest. This is how you know you're really breathing deeply. Stop for a second then breathe out through your mouth. Wait a second then breathe in deeply again. As you're breathing, think to yourself "In, out, in, out" or count with each breath. Good luck!

It was short, but to start again it needs to be brief. It felt nice.

Didn't meditate today, plan to tomorrow

I've meditated with a lot of success in years past. Never "religiously" but frequently. Having the calm and that connection with the higher self was a gift beyond description.
Then I went through a long period of astounding stress and change, and the ability to keep my mind focused for any length of time went right out the window.
Now I've been on the mend for a while and I'm able to think again. I want to reclaim meditation as part of my spiritual/physical practice. I've started meditating whenever I'm forced to wait, like at the doctor's office or in a slow line at the grocery store, or stuck in traffic. If nothing else it helps avoid being irritated and impatient!
But my goal now is to incorporate meditation more actively. I 100% believe it'll improve my concentration even more, and I can't wait to find out what else it might offer.

I've found that deep breathing, and quieting my mind for 20 minutes a day do wonders for my health...and there are a TON of other benefits, too. I wanted to share some exercises that work for me, so I made them available for free at:
www.soundofstressrelief.com. Download them for free, and use them in good health.

I do 30 minutes of walking stairs at work. Fifteen minutes in the morning, and 15 in the afternoon. While I'm walking I have been practicing a really cool "walking meditation" that really improves my mood and well-being. I will post the link here for anyone who is interested. I really enjoy it. In fact, I look forward to my stair-walking meditation sessions. It's kinda like my brain-induced all-natural Prozac without the nasty long-term suicide risks!! :)

I hope somebody else may benefit from this meditation.

I just decided to start taking control of my anxiety. I work 3rd shift and sleeping is difficult at times. I notice that when I cannot sleep, I tend to start worrying. I had panic attacks last week and it was very scary. My heart was pounding and I could not catch my breath.
I have decided to meditate when I arrive home in the morning. This will hopefully relax me enough to rest.

Walking meditation in the morning seems to really fit into the day. I've found a light session before bed really sets the stage for some good sleep, too.

Today, I relaxed my body by focusing on each part of it intensely as I lie down on my back. Then I tried to think about one thing I would like to fix in my life, in that calm state, and I let my thoughts be calm until some answers came to me. Sounds hokey, (and I am not explaining it well, I know) but I really like this type of meditation-ish activity. I also wrote my morning pages today, for about 20 minutes. I highly recommend morning pages to anyone who can't get their mind to "sit still" long enough to meditate in other ways. There are also some great, cheap Kundalini yoga courses I have taken recently which have helped me. I have PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), so getting my mind calm can be a huge challenge.

A short morning meditation... but not working tonight, and considering giving a before bed session a try.

Incorporating a morning meditation into a slightly revamped routine. Getting up earlier, making a little more time, and getting calm and centered before really starting the day feels great!

first time attempting meditation. recently turned my lifestyle around and started working out eating right and quit the use of tabacco and caffeine products and have been very high strung but if this works how it did today i believe it will make my transition to a healthier lifestyle

You sound like you're on the same path I am: quit coffee, quit cigarettes, trying to organize the diet, trying to meditate...
Best of luck!

Best de-stressers are exercise and meditation I think. I encourage you to go for a walk when you can, I've been doing this recently and I find myself slowing my thought process, reducing stress, not to mention an appreciation for the sights and sounds I experience on the way. It could work for you :)

just happened to glance on your post, I have to remember to stop drinking tea, was wondering (ANYONE HELP) if green tea(actually a combination of green tea and tulsi(holy basil)) contains enough caffiene to disrupt my concentration.
I am taking green tea and tulsi mix so that I benefit from the slimming effects of Green tea.
If it will make a difference I will switch only to Tulsi tea, I feel mental health is more important, once the mind is in control the body can do anything.
Thanks

I finally started meditating. I did it twice today for not more than 4 minutes but I did it.
I was able to relax my muscles and I felt better after a "chemical lunch"(tried a new restaurant :-()
I also did what you call a "so-hum" meditation.(indian). When you breathe you should inhale and try to listen for a sound that sounds like "so" and when you exhale try to hear the sound "hum". Don't try to breathe hard just keep doing it until you start to hear the "so-hum". This really increased my time.
I will continue until I am in the zone,
Thank you this site rocks
