I'm saying 36" on the waist without a proper tape measure.

Size 5/6 5ft 31/2 inches, want to get to that 27 inches before my wedding day!

By vjones11 on November 18, 2009 at 10:12 AM

I'm a bit confused about net calories versus total calories. When I exercise, my net is sometimes as low as 500 calories. Is this okay or should I be eating enough to keep my net close to my daily allowed caloric intake (for weight loss). I'm concerned about the issue of my body thinking it's in starvation mode. Does the body react the same whether youconsume 500 calories or eat 1500 and workoff 1000?

By thackie on November 18, 2009 at 02:27 PM

I'm not entirely sure. I find that the Livestrong calorie calculations are a little...generous. I highly doubt that I burn as much as they say.

I don't eat back all my calories (even though I sometimes have a 1500 calorie deficit). I just make sure I have some protein after a workout to feed my muscles!

By vjones11 on November 18, 2009 at 04:47 PM

@thakie- are you losing with that big of a deficit? How much are you losing per week? I agree that the allowed calories is too generous. I've manually adjusted to only allow 1600 calories per day. I'm just not sure if I should eat some of the exercise calories back. If I look at my deficit each week, I should be losing about 3# per week, but I'm not seeing that on the scale.

Good Luck and Happy B-day! Believe in yourself and you will do it!

By thackie on November 18, 2009 at 02:30 PM

You'll do great I'm sure! Three weeks is a good timeframe, enough to make a change but not so long that you'll get bored or frustrated.

You can do it! There are tons of people here who will help you out if you need it.

Ugh! Embarrassing. More embarrassing than my weight, I think, because I get weighed more often than I get measured... I would like to lose four inches by Dec. 25. I have no idea about how to figure a good goal inch-wise.

By ResilientWoman on November 13, 2009 at 08:11 PM

Mini goal: Weight of 297 pounds. Waist: 51.25" by November 24, 2009.

Largest measured waist: 60"
Current waist: 52"
Goal waist: 24-28"
Goal date: July 31, 2011.

By kittyboukus on November 17, 2009 at 10:52 AM

I like your idea of a mini-goal. Can you tell me your philosophy? I am setting mini-goals because the amount of weight I need to lose to be what "THEY" say I should weigh is far more than I actually want to lose. I just want to get from 288 to 200. I will be so much healthier at 200 and I will still be able to indulge myself in my favorite foods from time to time. My first goal is 10 pounds. I haven't set my date yet, but I'm thinking Christmas... A tiny, baby-step Christmas present to me! My name is Beth - sorry for being anonymous, but I have my reasons...

By Anonymous on November 17, 2009 at 10:54 AM

Crap! I wasn't anonymous was I? Now it's out there for the world to see...

anybody know if you can google me and my weight will blab out to all the world who know my user name?

By christievt on November 15, 2009 at 06:25 PM

Hi people,

As of starting today my waist is 41 inches - this is way too big around for me. I plan on doing this the old fashioned way...planning my healthy foods and exercise ahead of time so I don't have to wing it every day. I think it was Dr. Oz who said to have a plan if you want to succeed.

By vjones11 on November 17, 2009 at 10:03 AM

I love Dr. OZ. He's so inspiring.

This is the 2nd week I've been on this site. The more and more I explore here the more I like it. I've alway been active in my life outside of work. Vball, mtb, and running.

By anlawton on November 16, 2009 at 09:23 PM

I generally have a tiny waist..and while I'm really not too bad in weight, I do have a bulgy tummy and would like to flatten it a bit for my trip to Canada at christmas.

By jenarosity on November 14, 2009 at 02:39 PM

Hello I am new to livestrong but hey I wanted to get in on this one, I need to stay motivated and it seems there are a bunch of cool people on here that will do just that for me!!! My waist size is 39-40 inches right now and my goal is to lose 10 inches of that!!!!

By ResilientWoman on November 14, 2009 at 06:14 PM

For slimming your middle you can't find a faster, more efficient solution that eating well and using Kettlebells. I started with a goal of losing 20" and am 25% complete.

Kettlebells rock. My RKC Kettlebell instructor, Jen Waak of http://movefitfun.com has some cool articles you might find helpful.

Lauren Brooks is one of my favorite DVD, Blog and online resources. Her YouTube video on plank exercises is my latest find. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odrJ1v0NqJk She has a wonderful Body Sculpting DVD that, unlike most stuff sold to desperate overweight folk, really works.

I tracked on my own before I found LiveStrong and I could only manage to lose 0.25 pounds per WEEK. Since I've come to track here, I lose 2.25 pounds per week and 0.20-0.33 pounds per DAY or about 1" in my waist per month.

Hope that's a bit of help.

Stay Strong,
RW

Hi all, I think this is my first time posting in this dare. I just had a baby 3 months ago, my belly the day I gave birth was 47", and now 3 months later, it's 37". I'm hoping to get to around 30". I have a lot of jiggly squishy skin on my belly and I'm sooo ready to lose it! :)

By bschwoch2 on November 3, 2009 at 06:39 PM

I started this challenge some time ago and I started at I think 35 inches and now I am 29 inches. I started at 178 pounds originally and now I weight 148. I think this will be the end of my weight loss for a while because i am now almost 4 months pregnant. I actually got really horrible morning sickness (not fun) BUT sprung me to lose another 20 pounds very quickly and I believe I have finally stopped losing weight and will start to gain. I am going to continue this challenges to make sure I continue to have a healthy pregnancy and keep my self at a healthy weight.

My last pregnancy I started off at 135 and ended up at 198. Lets see that it does not happen again.

Just wanted to post this in reply to Bschwoch2 and any other pregnant women who want to continue to improve their health and strength while moving toward mommyhood and labor.

Lauren Brooks is an amazing trainer and mom to two and filmed this workout video for pregnant women when she was 6 1/2 months pregnant.

Have a happy pregnancy and I had hyperemesis, so you have my empathy.

By shaggz on November 13, 2009 at 11:56 AM

good news about the morning sickness, a recent report noted that children whose mothers had morning sickness have a higher IQ

By shaggz on November 13, 2009 at 11:49 AM

I have not posted in a while but i have been keeping track of my food, weight and body measurements and i am right on track. it always amazes me how easy it is to reach a goal when i don't try to lie to myself or make excuses. just wake up and do the right thing and the right things will happen. i have even stopped cheating at solitare.

By naomi_pino on November 13, 2009 at 12:15 AM

I am still working on this dare i haven't done anything drastic so far but i'm motivated and i will really push myself to attain my goal.

Hi my friends,

Any advice from success people how to get this done easily?

By vjones11 on November 8, 2009 at 05:33 PM

Make good food choices and exercise.

By RainDots on November 10, 2009 at 02:40 PM

If it was easy, There'd be less overweight people.

By ResilientWoman on November 12, 2009 at 09:20 PM

Cook all of your own food. Use the Schwarzbein Principle by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein. Swing Kettlebells with an RKC certified instructor, it's easy...fat melts off of me at the rate of 0.25 pounds per day up to 3 pounds per week. Of all the people who melt their waist inches off the easiest/fastest and, more importantly to me, keep it off for at least 5 years, the ones having the most fun seem to be the Gireviks, or Kettlebell lifters.

http://www.dragondoor.com/rkc/

Don't take my word for it, buy one and get an RKC to teach you to use it. The inches from your waist can disappear in as little as 3 X 20 minutes per week while you get a good cardio workout and strength training. Guys stuck at the office all day love them because they are portable and efficient. Besides you won't need to budget time to drive to and from the gym.
