got some stuff called "also salt". Not the greatest, but, a little goes a long ways.

I did some research and found that garlic is supposed to help with among other things, blood pressure. Hope it's true as I am now taking it. This is my 2nd day.

I have started counting table salt on MY PLATE. It dawned on me that even though it had no calories, it was adding to my sodium levels. So, before I 'shake on the salt' I am measuring it.

Hi Everyone,

Just joined the group today and I'm hoping I can pick up some keys to lowering my blood pressure. Just checked a few minutes ago...starting here at 125/85....looking to go much lower. Started last month losing weight. Down 9 lbs. Working to take off 11 more to get me to 168 lbs. I'll see how I feel when I get there.

My husband and I have been walking. It's not much compared to many people, but, for me it's a lot. We have worked up to an average of 1.5 to 2 miles, 6-7 days a week. I am not sure how exercise works to lower blood pressure, but, I've always heard "diet & exercise".

I'm just getting started to lower my BP with the hope of not needing medication.

By CKayEriksen on November 10, 2009 at 05:54 PM

I started paying more attention to how much sodium I consume.

By CKayEriksen on November 9, 2009 at 12:54 AM

I'm hoping through diet and exercise I can get off some of the medications I use for high blood pressure. Presently I take 25mg Hydroclorithyizide, 100mg Toprol, 100mg Cozaar and even though I know this is not the dare, I want to drop my high cholesterol and high triglycerides in the process. I know I don't monitor my BP as I should and want to check it at least every other day.

I took my high blood pressure medicine and I exercised.

Exercise, diet, meditation and clean living are paying off. Plus I have a supercool girlfriend that really helps because she is so positive and supportive.

I love her.

The stresses of a high pressure job and home life are really taking a toll. My BP has been in the 140/90 range for too long. The medication, diet (down over 30 lbs) and exercise are just not working. Time to re-evaluate. Just getting so frustrated!

Been there it takes time don't give up have faith. Good luck!

I can relate to the high pressure job. I used to work at Sprint as a project manager. I eventually quit the job partly due to the high stress thing.

It has really paid off. My overall health has really improved. I am not sick nearly as often. My stomach problems have virtually gone away, my BP is FINALLY within normal limits without medication (Yay me) And I am a happier and more energetic person because of it. I'm not making the money that I was before. But I am %100 cool with that! You can't really put a price on your health....

Just some thoughts on some changes I made that really helped me msbadger. Keep it up and LiveStrong. I KNOW you can do it!! :)

I just accepted a new full time position as a construction supervisor. The position is reliant on my passing the medical. I went to the company nurse for my hearing and Blood Pressure tests. At that time my reading was 157/109. She told me she wanted to monitor the BP and I was to return the next week (August 10, 2009) for twice daily readings. I went the next week and my reading was 175/116. They sent me to the hospital, and the doctor asked me what I was going to do about my problem, and I told him exercise, low sodium, and no coffee or alcohol.
Since then I have started tracking my caloric intake on "daily plate" and I have used Livestrong Loops to create walking loops in my community. I have walked every evening, and this week I started alternating my 4 mile walks one day and then a 1 km swim the next. I have not had a coffee or alcohol since I started. I have not really lost any weight, but I contribute that to the fact that I think I am rebuilding muscle, and the weight loss will come soon.
I am happy to say that less than 2 weeks later my BP reading today was 127/86 with a pulse of 62. I still have a ways to go with the blood pressure and my weight loss goal is 60 lbs.
Wish me luck.

Awesome what an inspiration!

Hey! I'm rooting for ya! I just had a wake-up call with my blood pressure and I'm only 22, so I am beginning to quit smoking and start doing night walks like you did. Your BP progress in two weeks is amazing; I hope I can do as well.

Keep on keeping on my friend!

I had my annual physical today. I had been monitoring my BP with the cuff that you can use at wallmart, and had been showing high blood pressure for about 3 months now. I even bought a cuff last night so that I can track it at home myself. However, the nurse measured my BP today @ 120/78!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

GO ME GO ME GO ME It's my birthday (

By mrhuckins on November 3, 2009 at 10:44 AM

P.S. I bought a blood pressure cuff from wallmart yesterday. It was only about $13. Cheap investment for anyone concerned about monitoring their blood pressure.
