As I write this, I don't know what tomorrow holds for Pat. My wife's brother is very sick. We just learned that his cancer has moved to his brain. I hope Pat will be with us so I can tell him how proud I was to cross the finish line at the Philly Livestrong Challenge in his honor in a few weeks. Riding my bike doesn't feel right at this time, but I don't know what else to do. I'll listen to any advice. We are very sad at this time.

Just browsing through the forums and happened upon your post.

So very sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. Such a sad stressful time for your family. Riding your bike is your way of coping and it's a very healthy way.

My sister lost her husband from brain cancer and coped through biking. My husband lost his dad, also from brain cancer, and is also coping with biking.

Biking in honour of your brother-in-law is a wonderful thing to do. Thoughts are with you and your family.

So sorry to hear this. Please try to remember the community of support around you and yours at this time. We understand something of what you are going through: we have a bond and you aren't alone despite whatever you might feel. Nothing is likely to feel OK right now; least of all cycling. Perhaps you can try to focus on the little bit of good your cycling does for Pat. It's not medicine for him but it's some sort of spiritual care and might turn into
a medicine for you.

Thank you all. Good advice all around. My wife will take Pat to his radiation in the morning and i will ride my bike. It won't feel right. But I'll try.

Joe - very sorry to hear the news. I have found that riding is also good alone time that can be used for prayer. I know last year while my wife was dealing with her cancer, prayer helped me cope and I found it was easier to think while riding. The challenge may also be a motivating force for Pat also. He knows what and why your doing the ride and I'm sure is extremely proud of your dedication and support. Best wishes and your in our prayers with the hopes we not only see you in Philly but can celebrate with you!

30 today. I'm estimating because the transmitter on my cyclo-computer disintegrated in my hand. I was changing the battery and the plastic assembly that holds the zip ties just crumbled. Oooops. Anyway, it was a , wind today, but it was oh so kind at times. Autumn is here in Bucks County.

I rode 20 miles yesterday... they near killed me. I used to pound out twenty miles without complaints, in Palos Verdes at that! I did it once, I'll do it again.
