Week 5 exhaustion test = 60.
This is a good result!
By abed83a on November 20, 2009 at 04:40 PM
No it is not 'good' result, it is 'very good' result. Congrats!
By angelovearth on November 20, 2009 at 04:43 PM
I would have to agree! Good job.

W4D1C2 18,22,16,16,24..96. 2 min rest before last set(instead of 1 min) and still short of 25 minimum.
By angelovearth on November 20, 2009 at 04:42 PM
So close. I'm sure you'll hit it next time.

Nice!

Ok, still embarrassed by the memory of how many pushups I used to be able to do in the 90's, but oh well. Finished week 1, column 1 today. Day 1 i was maxing at 7, and i couldn't have done one more than that, but today on Day 3, I cranked out 10 somehow. I guess I'll continue on to week 2 col 1 and see how that goes!!!
By angelovearth on November 20, 2009 at 04:40 PM
Don't look back, look forward. You're improving and doing great! It's amazing how quickly we gain strength by doing these.
By angelovearth on November 20, 2009 at 10:53 AM
Re-did w3d2c2 20-25-20-20-33!!! Today I asked my youngest son for support. Felt strong all the way to the end. He yelled "GO MOM GO" during my last set and I was able to push out 33! oh yeah, oh yeah ;)
One question, actually two...1. My friend would like to start doing push ups but has arthritis and very weak writsts. Is there any way she could do push ups? Should she start with wall push ups? But isn't that rather for a weak upper body rather than wrists? Any advice I could give her from you guys???...2. When you track your goal on this site of a hundred push ups, do you only track the exhaustion days? I've been tracking each time I do it, and now I'm over 100...
THANKS! Have a great weekend everyone ;-)

Wait, I meant week 4, not 3...
By archie72 on November 20, 2009 at 11:09 AM
That is SWEET! Congrats!
1. a lot of people recommend either doing the push-ups on your knuckles, or using those "perfect pushup" devices.
2. I just track my max consecutive pushups for the given day (that's the ultimate goal right?)
By Willy_G on November 20, 2009 at 11:32 AM
1) Arthritis is tough. Strengthening the wrists by doing wrists rolls may help but may also make the problem worse. Probably best to get the pressure off the wrists by straightening them out. She could try fist push-ups done with the knuckles as opposed to the palm of the hand or bar push-ups.
2)I track my total, which includes the total done during the training sets on training days and my exhaustion test result for the day I do the test. So, my chart has dips on the exhaustion test days.
By popejackson on November 20, 2009 at 12:22 PM
That was a pretty impressive workout, very nice. You are a machine on a mission lol. As far as the friend, I would suggest wrapping the wrists with supports or tape and doing knuckle or pushup equipment (basically a bar you grip that rests on the ground or the perfect pushup tool).
By angelovearth on November 20, 2009 at 04:38 PM
Thanks! Now I know for sure that I can do day 3. I was a bit worried about that. And thanks for the advice to my friend! I'll pass it on.
By dogrady1220 on November 20, 2009 at 08:26 AM
OUCH! w3, d2, c3. hit the goals, except the max out. arms were like rubberbands! split the last max of 25 into 3 sets with breif breaks. 10, 10, and 15.
By jeweiss on November 19, 2009 at 10:58 AM
20, 25, 15, 15 and I couldn't pull off the 5th set. I might stay at week 3 again!
By xantheus on November 19, 2009 at 09:02 AM
W2D3 In the column I made up....31/32/29/29/46 = 167..Lookin forward to week 2 Exhaustion Test

On my way to actually being able to do even one pushup, I have been doing Lauren Brooks plank work (On The Edge Fitness, YouTube, Kettlebell Queen). I am making rapid progress from Plank, phase 1, first two weeks to Plank, phase 2 this week. I will continue to do these until I can actually perform my first pushup without injuring myself.
I will not let go of this dare until I can do 100 consecutive pushups, even if it takes me a year. lol
Thanks,
RW

I checked out your link on youtube. I've done phase 1& 2 over the years, but have never incorporated the two as in phase 3. It's quite challenging. I like it!
Your name says it all. Good for you!
By RonaldDuncan on November 19, 2009 at 07:45 AM
Good luck and have fun with the challenge. I had a quick look at the people that have done the hundred on the http://www.hundredpushups.com/didthehundred.html site.
My inspiration was a lady that had lost a lot of weight, and was having difficult loosing more so she did the challenge, and the continued to loosing weight.
She found it easier doing the 100 pushups at that point than loosing weight and then she started loosing again.
I do Kum Nye everyday and a plank is 2nd in the series (it is with toes extended and arms straight thumbs and index fingers touching).
Any way good luck and you will manage it. I can already do more pushups than I have ever done before in my life.
PS. You want to start out your pushups in the same way as the plank, so that you build up gradually.

Injured my arm again (not fully recovered) so trying to do 20 set of 10 spread through the day, so that I do a reasonable number with out any high intensity.
By popejackson on November 19, 2009 at 07:23 AM
Slacked off for a week - did a max test of 58, then did sets of 42/40/30/30. Will get back on track for friday.
By trinity218 on November 19, 2009 at 06:42 AM
week 4 D2C2 20/25/20/20/30. I am feeling stronger. Saturday will complete week 4 then I must take 2 weeks off due to mole excision. Stitches stay in 10-14 days. Then I will have to re-test.
By dogrady1220 on November 18, 2009 at 07:22 PM
a baby was born this week, so there was lots of waiting and celebrating... finally started today! w3, d1, c3 hit each mark just as they said. maxing out on last set was exhausting, but i hit that 20. looking forward to d2 on Saturday.
By angelovearth on November 18, 2009 at 05:15 PM
Started again on w4d2c2, 20-25-20-20-20. I was supposed to do 28 on my last set but couldn't do more than 20. I felt strong all the way til the last set, then I was tired and sluggish already around 10. I think I'll do this day over again before moving on. Still 105 isn't bad! ;) Thank you trinity and jeweiss for the advice on the back stretches!
By Jarandilla on November 18, 2009 at 07:51 AM
W3D3 16,21,15,15,21...88. Weak shoulders.
By archie72 on November 18, 2009 at 06:52 AM
Ouch. I wasn't sure which would give out first, my arms/chest or my stomach muscles. I think it was stomach. You don't find out how weak your core is until you do some push-ups I'd say. Either way, successful completion, 7 max for set 5. I feel embarrased to be starting at such a low level, but I know I'll progress and starting low is better than doing nothing. Interested to see what D3 feels like. . .
By genterist on November 14, 2009 at 12:39 PM
Today I am able to do 100 push-ups broken into set. I do it with the "perfect-pushup" tool and in advance push-up form.
I try to reach 100 consecutive push-ups goal before 2010 begins.
The goal 300 push-ups is based on the last day plan of the 100 consecutive push-ups plan.
By karrrl on November 17, 2009 at 05:46 AM
What's a "perfect-pushup" tool?
By genterist on November 17, 2009 at 07:34 PM
You can go to any sport shop and ask for it. Basically, it's a small tool that make you use more muscle power and muscle groups to do a push-up.
For example, if you can do 20 push-ups with the tool, you can do around 30 to 40 regular push-ups
By abed83a on November 17, 2009 at 11:17 PM
In 'Perfect push up tool' two devices are essentially spinning handles atop a stationary coaster-shaped disc on the floor, work with the natural rotation of your arms and shoulders.
Claim is: maximize results and minimize stress on your body.
By Willy_G on November 17, 2009 at 07:38 PM
Completed W5/D3/C2 - 175 total. Final set was 45, matching my recent exhaustion test. Last 15 very difficult, but persevered. Another exhaustion test in a couple of days, then will do W5/D2/C3 before moving to week 6.
By genterist on November 17, 2009 at 07:29 PM
120 push-ups today ... will keep the number growing !!
